A new beach

Sunday December 30...11:00pm

We decided we were due for a change of scenery today. We've already got reservations at the restaurant a few beaches over for New Years Eve (I think they charge $9 each!) so we decided to head over there a day early to
maybe get to know some of the people there a bit. Besides, there's a fun game played at these beach campsites whereby the guy collecting the money doesn't show up regularly...there is no set schedule. So one tries to leave the campground on the days where he hasn't yet shown up, thereby saving that days camp fee. We lucked out because the guy hadn't shown up for 3 days...so we saved 3 days fees. Plus, as I write this, the guy collecting at the new beach hasn't shown up either, so we're hoping tonight might be free as well.

Where we are parked up for the next two nights

While walking Whiskey around the new beach, we stopped and talked to a guy who has a satellite internet dish on the roof of his expensive motorhome. I had looked at these dishes online, and they're really nice...they always give you internet access from anywhere in the world. This guy says he paid almost $5,000 for the dish setup and he pays a monthly fee of about $90. This is very pricey, but it's also a great system. The dish mounts on your roof and it's all electronic so it automatically aims itself at the correct signal. You can buy a cheaper version that you set up yourself on a tripod, but this guy says it takes you minimum half hour to get it all lined up so that you can get online. So if you amortize the cost of the dish over 4 years of service, and add on the monthly fee, you're close to $200 a month for always having internet where ever you go. Very nice...but kind of expensive.

Not much else happening today. Had a nap in the afternoon, and took Whiskey for another walk afterwards. We're parked away from everyone, but this beach has more families and kids. A little noisy, but it also has more hiking and walking areas than the last one.
