We left Berat at about 10:30am Monday morning and did the longer drive up through the mountains on the old road towards Albania's capital city of Tirana.
Ruth had packed us a lunch and we stopped at the top along the spine where you have beautiful views off both sides.
It was a really clear day.
With great views from the top looking back towards Tomorr Mountain.
This is the rental car we've had for the last 19 days.
Traffic getting from the city to the airport was terrible. In fact, the whole airport area is a mess. They've done so much work since the first time we came here during Covid, only four years ago. In fact it's amazing how much tourism has skyrocketed since then and they're just barely coping with the influx. But, they're trying and we can see that the improvements will start to take effect over the next year or so as the airport and access roads and parking are being expanded.
The Hotel Alpet was fine. We had a room in the newer section of the hotel and it was quite nice. The meal we had in the restaurant was just average though... nothing special.
We were up at silly o'clock (3am!) this morning. Ruth says "what's that noise outside" and she opened the curtain to see that it was absolutely pouring with rain. I mean absolutely dumping it down. We got ourselves ready and even got our rain ponchos out because it was only a five minute walk to the terminal, so we had no choice but to walk it. We got outside, and it had miraculously stopped. Not a drop. Except, there were huge puddles everywhere. That's the first rain we've seen we arrived here 19 days ago.
Our 5:35am flight was about 20 minutes late departing, but we arrived at Rome's FCO airport exactly on time at 7:00am.

Got ourselves settled into the premium lounge for some breakfast and relax time before our 12:45pm KLM flight to Amsterdam.
Oh... and, received a notification from KLM that they could not yet give us boarding passes for our connecting flight from Amsterdam to Southampton, saying that we were being placed on the "waiting list". So, not sure what's going on with that, and we probably won't find out any more until we actually arrive in Amsterdam. We'll see!
