Day trip to Whitby, North Yorkshire, and met some new friends!

A bit of an overcast blustery day... it sure didn't feel like early July! But, we wanted to get out, so we took the dogs and hopped in the car for a drive over to the seaside town of Whitby.

First though, we said goodbye to Helen and Tony. Always fun times with them, and we look forward to the next time!

Our hosts Elaine and Zed spent most of the day at the hospital getting her broken wrist looked at. They have already left the house this morning as it was decided that she needs surgery and that will take place today. So, good luck to her, and hopefully she makes it back home this evening without having to stay overnight in the hospital.

About a 45 minute drive to Whitby. It's a busy touristy town, although fun to wander around with lots of photo opportunities. We paid for parking near the center, and went for a walk.

Lots of interesting boats in the harbor!

This one is a restaurant.

The Black Pearl Harbor Cruise.

Ha... Captain Jack Sparrow!

Busy harbor.

Scenery along the way.

Lots of seagulls around.

This beach should be full of people basking in the sun at this time of year!

We could see the Whitby Abbey ruins on a hill on the opposite side.

Good view of the town with Whitby Abbey on the far left.

Whitby, North Yorkshire.

We walked out to the end of the pier.

Zoomed in on the abbey.

We had been sitting enjoying the view and we were right by the cliff. When we stood up to leave, I noticed some movement in the brush right in front of us at the edge of the cliff. There was a seagull nest right there, and mom was feeding the two young ones.

Mom, with two young gulls.

Another view of the abbey.
We decided to head across the channel and up to the abbey.

Lots of little laneways.

Built in 1688!

Looking down on the town.

Whitby, North Yorkshire.

Old cemetery.

Not much left of the abbey, which dates back to the 11th century.

The shell of the abbey.

Graveyard overlooking Whitby.

Ruth belongs to a couple of facebook groups that cater to the nomad crowd, and one of them had put out a call asking if there was anybody in the neighborhood. Ruth had responded, and it turns out that Kerri and Greg from Colorado were only 20 minutes away from us, so we stopped in at their Airbnb on the way home to say hello. Lots to talk about as they are fairly new to the nomad lifestyle, and we didn't have much time because we had to get the dogs home to get them fed. So we spent a quick hour and a half or so together, but have made plans to do a day trip with them today, and they will be here soon. We are all headed to the town of Richmond to see what there is to see.

Kevin, Ruth, Greg, and Kerri.
