Train trip and Cyprus update

Yesterday evening, we published our February expense report. If you missed it, you can read it here

A few weeks ago, we told you about an overnight scenic train ride that we wanted to do between Ankara and Kars, or the reverse. Tickets are really hard to get, but we put in our request hoping that we might get some around the end of February when we were in Antalya area and we could have flown from Antalya to either Ankara or Kars to meet the train.

Unfortunately, we've been told that the only way to get tickets now is to arrive at either Ankara or Kars and try to get them last minute. That doesn't work for us, so we've put that idea on the backburner for now. Who knows, we may end up in Ankara some time in April and we can do it then.

So with that idea behind us, we now look at whether or not we can go to Cyprus. The ferry port for departure is only 260 kms (160 miles) ahead of us, so I did some research. It turns out that our motorhome insurance is only valid in South Cyprus, but from Turkiye we can only reach North Cyprus by ferry. So we would need to buy extra insurance for North Cyprus, which is doable, but we have not yet been able to get a firm price.

But the second problem is that the ferry website is telling me that because Max is still registered to the dealer, I need a letter signed by the dealer principals saying I have permission to take him into North Cyprus. All I have is a letter stating that Max is 100% owned by us, but registered to the dealer. So I need to check with the customs office at the ferry port to see if that is sufficient. So it looks like a trip to Cyprus will be a last minute thing.

Which is okay. We would prefer to go to Cyprus for a month, but if it doesn't happen we will just continue with our original plan which is to head further east, probably as far as the Syria border. By the end of March things will be starting to warm up and we can head inland to Cappadocia, and then towards Istanbul and the Bulgaria border by April 20th.

Yesterday was a rain day, which was expected. Still, we managed to get out for a walk around the park between showers.

Quite a difference from the day before.

The shoreline has these rocky circular holes. Really odd.

Big waves splashing up.

Part of the picnic area.

Campground electricity!
Kind of reminds us of some Mexican campgrounds we've been in!

Currently not raining, so we better get out for another walk while we can!
