Well, that was an interesting day!

We were up and on the road at 6:30am Thursday morning. We were headed just across the city, but wanted to beat any rush hour traffic, and we did a pretty good job of it.

I had been looking at other listings on the park4night app for the city of Adana and came across one from fellow motorhome travelers who live in Adana. They like to welcome others to park at their home and visit with them. We contacted them, and they invited us over.

It's just a parking spot in a residential neighborhood in the north part of the city. But we weren't there for the view, we were there to meet the locals. And we spent the whole day together with young couple Duygu and Timmy and their two year old daughter Esme.

Duygu is Turkish, and Timmy is from Germany. But they both speak fluent English. We sure had lots to talk about because Duygu and Timmy had done a long term trip from Germany to India and back in an old motorhome. What a lot of stories they had to tell!

When Covid hit in March 2020, they were on their way back to Turkiye. Duygu was pregnant and she planned on having their baby here in Adana where her family lives. But the borders got locked down while they were in Azerbaijan and they were not allowed to leave the country. Esme was born in April of that year in Azerbaijan. Their motorhome was left behind and is still there.

We may be adventurous, but I don't see us ever being quite that adventurous. Imagine driving a motorhome through Iran, Pakistan, and India? But then I often wonder that we are driving a motorhome in Turkiye near the Syria border!!

Since they were able to fly out of Azerbaijan, they have been back to Germany several times and bought two more older motorhomes. They drive them back to Turkiye and renovate them where it is cheap to do so, then drive them back to Germany and sell them at a profit.

Duygu made lunch for us all.
Hummus, salad, stuffed eggplant and rice wrapped in grape leaves, and some kind of seasoned muffins.

After lunch, Timmy took Esme in her stroller (she fell asleep) and we went for a walk with Timmy and Esme while Duygu had some alone time.

We walked up a hill in the neighborhood that overlooks the lake.

Beautiful view of Seyhan Dam Lake.
When we leave here, we will cross that bridge and head inland for a couple of days.

And, looking back at the city from the same location.

We picked up a couple of beers on the way back to their apartment, and sat on the balcony enjoying the afternoon. We offered to take them out for dinner if there was a local place that they liked, and they came up with a place that was near downtown. So we all piled into one of their old motorhomes and Timmy drove us downtown.

It was a kebab place, but they also serve a lot of included appetizers.

We were stuffed and there was actually too much food!

And then we did something different...

Timmy suggested we go to a local pub for a beer. He said he knew of a band that was playing live music, and of course we don't get out in the evening very often.

And of course... it was St. Patrick's Day!

So we spent yesterday evening in an Irish pub, listening to an Australian rock band playing in Turkiye!

Too funny.

What a good time we had.

Today, Duygu is setting us up with the sewing guy who made the seat covers for their motorhome restoration projects. We want to get some nice removable washable covers made for Max's dinette seats. We are currently using just blankets that tuck in, but they come untucked easily and we want something made that would be similar to a fitted sheet on a mattress with an elastic seam.

    1. When you travel it is hard not to find other interesting people, especially ones that RV as well. And we find over here in Europe and Turkiye that you find lots of very adventurous people just because they have such "easy" access to all these different countries. I say "easy" because you can cross them all by land but actually crossing the borders isn't always so easy. Some countries visas in advance that aren't always easy to get. You definitely have to do your homework and make sure you have what is needed for crossing each border ahead of time.

  2. Wonderful day and amazing to find an Ozzie band at that Irish pub. We had a good day too and met up with Shawn and Neil who are on their last 2 days in Antalya. Cheers

    1. It was a fun day and interesting day for sure. It wasn't us that found that Ozzie band, it was Timmy and Duygu that knew about the band and have seen them a number of times before, so it was at their suggestion that we stop in for a beer on St. Patrick's Day and listen to a set in the evening.

So glad that you got to see Shawn and Neil one more time before they left Antalya. :-)

  3. I am very impressed with the lunch Duygu served you. That would have taken me a full day ahead to prepare all those different dishes.

    1. I food was leftovers from a previous meal, so it just needed a little warming up. She did make fresh hummus though and cut up the tomatoes and olive salad. It was a delicious lunch. :-)

  5. I have been following you a bit on MeWe, and I want to thank you for your great Travelodge! I also want to thank you for using the current name of Turkiye, which I had not seen before your use of it. I was curious enough to look it up, and I'm glad I did.

    1. Thank you Stephanie for following along with us and for taking the time to comment, we always appreciate it. We are happy that you are enjoying our posts about our travels and adventures. :-)

Not many people know that Turkiye officially changed it's spelling on January 1st of this year, so we try to make sure that we use the new spelling of it.
