Tlaquepaque Bungalows and RV Resort

Yep, we spent the night at an RV Resort. One of the very few actual full service RV parks in Mexico. Two swimming pools, beautifully manicured grounds, lots of activities, good wi-fi, and 30 amp electricity, and it's right on a great section of beach in a quiet Mexican town!

This place has it all.

The Mexican beach town of Lo de Marcos (pop 3.000) has seven or eight RV Parks. The largest one is located just past the town's central plaza at the Villas and Bungalows Tlaquepaque.

Upon arrival, you're better off stopping in the central plaza. This isn't a busy town (unlike Sayulita!) and odds are good you'll be able to pull off to the side in the plaza, even if you're driving a big rig. If you've got a towed vehicle, you'll want to disconnect here as well. Then, you can walk the short distance to the office and get them to open the main gate for you.

The main entrance gate.

This park has been in operation for 20 years. It's proof that if you make a well designed full service RV park in Mexico, people will come. And you can charge top dollar for it too. There are 70 RV sites, in three different sections of the park. There are nice bathrooms and laundry machines for each section.

There are also hotel rooms. Actually, villas that sleep up to ten people each and bungalows that sleep five, and the regular rooms sleep four. This is actually a resort, so there are also a lot of Mexicans who come here for a beach holiday.

The reception area.

Christmas in Mexico!

Nativity scene.

As I said, there are 70 sites here, with currently maybe a dozen that are empty and available. It's a popular park with people who want to stay all season.

Sherman, parked up in paradise. Can you see him smiling?!

One of the pools. This one is obviously more for the children.

Large level sites for the big rigs! The guy with the ladder is installing Christmas decorations.

Lots of greenery and park space.

Sherman doesn't really fit in with this row of expensive rigs.

The RV section is located only 50 yards from this beach.

Lots of walking areas, and always somebody doing something to keep things tidy.

Volleyball anyone?

Another nice RV site.

The second pool.

Lots of places to relax.

Tlaquepaque RV Park has probably the nicest facilities of any park we've seen in Mexico. Of course all of this comes with a price, so it's also one of the most expensive. But if you can afford it, you'll surely enjoy your stay here. Prices are at $40 USD (currently 520 pesos) per night, with discounts available for longer term stays. Monthly rates exclude the metered electricity.

I've seen forum discussions where people express disappointment that there are no "American style" resort parks in Mexico. I guess they've never been here!

  1. Beautiful RV resort. Considering all the amenities it's within budget for most folks...especially those who can afford the big rigs!

    1. Agreed! We just aren't used to staying in places like this but it was nice for a change.

  2. I love this. I would be interested to know where the big rigs are from? What states? Any of the big ones from Canada?

    1. The majority of the rigs are from Quebec, Canada but there were also rigs from several different states and provinces. There is a large caravan of rigs from Quebec that come down together at the beginning of the season, stay for the winter and then they caravan back out together.

  3. Very nice.
There is some nice resorts in Mexico, if you choose to pay the money, but then its just not the same.

    1. We don't normally stay at "resorts" either in Mexico, the States or Canada but occasionally because of circumstances we have and this has been the nicest that we have been in.

  4. That price point seems to be about right these days for what is available at that park. Mind you, those rigs look a wee bit too sandwiched in for my liking, but there's the beach, the amenities, and stuff to do, so it's not like you'd be sitting outside your rig for any length of time, or at all.

    1. Yes, for what you get at the park we have to agree that the price is probably in line with what you would see at many resorts elsewhere, we just aren't used to prices like that. As for beginning sandwiched in they are all spaced the same distance apart as what Sherman is in the abouve picture which isn't too bad as we have been in campgrounds where you are literally on top of your neighbour with nothing separating the sites.

  5. We stayed at Ron's RV park in Lo de Marcos. Also very nice, small...owned by a Canadian couple.

    1. We walked by Ron's and looked in on it. The one thing we didn't like about it was that it was totally concrete, to us it was more like a fancy parking lot.

  6. There is another nice resort just down the road in La Penita. Have been going for years and it is run by Canadians. This resort has it all with the beach view. WWWlapenitarvresort.com

    1. We know which one you are talking about, we had walked through it about three years ago. Have to admit though that we prefer to try when possible to support the Mexican owned properties while traveling through Mexico.

    1. Yep, we totally agree with you! We have seen some dumps that call themselves a "resort".

  8. The year we stayed there everyone except us and one other rig was French Canadian. Most go there every year and at that time it was very hard to find empty sites. I think it was 2009.

    1. When we walked around, Kevin said that at least 50% or more were from Quebec but there were also quite a few from the States and other Canadian provinces. This is one of the first years that we have been noticing a lot more American plates compared to other years.

  9. We spent three or four days there on our first trip into Mexico. A very nice spot with one of the staff members being fluent in three languages (Spanish, French and English). It was an easy walk to town where there was a festival going on. Poor Sherman must be experiencing culture shock! As I recall, you could rent a bungalow for the same price as parking an RV!

    1. Yes, it is the closest park to town which is just around the corner from the entrance way. The staff we all friendly but at the time the people that we talked to only spoke Spanish except for one girl at the front desk. The grounds were beautiful manicured and very inviting.

Yep, Sherman wasn't quite sure how to act, I think he thought that he had died and gone to heaven there! :-) He deserved it, especially after this past summer, he was so filthy when we got back to him this year.

    1. Yep, he sure looks different there living the high life than he does right now sitting in the cold and snow in our daughter's driveway at the moment. :-(
