It's looking like a great week

And it's going to be busy here at the park. Next weekend is August long weekend here in Canada and the campground is sold out. Almost. We still have a couple of tenting sites open, but the tenters tend to wait until the last minute to see what the weather's going to be like.

And so far, the weather is looking like it's going to be great!

In fact all this week the forecast is for around 30C (86F) and sunny.

Great looking weather forecast!

This past weekend wasn't the greatest. We had a lot of wind and rain on Friday, Saturday was cool, but yesterday turned out not bad. The weekend went pretty smoothly other than one complaint about some late nighters on Saturday night leading into Sunday morning. Of course when I'm told about it the next day, it's too late to actually do anything about it. I did go talk to the offending parties and make a mental note of it though.

Our couchsurfers Bart and Sanna arrived in time for dinner Saturday evening. They're in their early 30's and from Netherlands. They're on a long term tour of Canada with their dog Mara. I haven't got any photos yet, but I'll be sure to get some before they leave and include them in tomorrow's blog post.

We're their first couchsurfing experience, although they have been staying with people in Canada through WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) during which you volunteer some work hours towards a farm operation in exchange for room and board. Interesting hearing the stories of someone who has done it, although I doubt that it's something we would do.

Quite a few of you buying through our Amazon.com links over the weekend, so thanks for that! Here's our deal of the day today...

Our original GPS was a Garmin, and the one we currently own is a Tom-Tom. Based on those two experiences, we would buy a Garmin over a Tom-Tom, and in particular we would buy this Garmin because it also includes maps of Mexico. And, it includes free map updates for life. That, and the fact that this is the best price available (and only available today) at $119.95.

I notice that Best Buy also has this unit on sale, but at $139.95. Today only, you can save an additional $20 at Amazon.

    1. You're welcome Grace. If we lived in the States we would be getting that one as well.

  2. We already have that exact GPS and it is great in addition to having the Mexico maps included.

    1. That's good to know, it's definitely the one that we want next.

  3. I have a tomtom now, but prefer garmin simply because the tomtom screen suffers on sunny days, it is too reflective and shows very little detail on a bright sinny day.

    1. We have the Tom-Tom as well and haven't been totally happy with it. We don't find it to be as accurate as the Garmin and it is missing some of the features that the Garmin had. The only reason we got it at the time was that we got a good deal on it and it supplied the Mexico maps and at that time Garmin didn't.

  5. Hi,

I am a relatively new reader and I really enjoy your blog. Just curious as to why you may not do WOOF. I am looking into different accommodation options while travelling. Thanks so much.

    1. I think part of the reason might be that we are older and it sounds like it would be a lot more like work than what we would want. It's not to say that we wouldn't do it, it is just unlikely that we would. If we were to find one in the right area with the right conditions then we might consider it. Both Bart and Sanna enjoyed the two that they did so far in Canada but the second one wasn't as much fun. They did 4-6 hours of weeding a day for 5 days a week in exchange for room and board which to us doesn't sound like fun and whatever we do needs to be fun. We definitely think WWOOFing is a younger person thing.
