Bermuda, and a Dead Rat

Still looking for ways down to Mexico from Seattle, where we'll be when we return from Korea in early November. Found a flight deal from Seattle to Bermuda, then Bermuda to Los Angeles. $366 USD per person. Great price. We could spend two weeks in Bermuda before heading to Los Angeles.

Good deal, however then we still have to make our way to Mexico and it's not much cheaper getting there from Los Angeles than it is direct from Seattle.

I'm even keeping my eyes open for a cruise leaving Los Angeles that will port at Huatulco. Then we could just get off the ship and stay there. If a good enough deal comes along, that might be an option. One thing in our favor is that November travel tends to be a great time for deals.

So...haven't booked the Bermuda deal yet. Still thinking about it though!

Okay, so the dead rat?

I'm in the office yesterday, checking people in. One of the seasonal campers comes up to me with a small plastic bag in her hand. At first, I think it's a dog poop bag. She hands it to me saying, "I've got a present for you". Huh? I kind of raise my eyebrows cause I'm not sure what it is. But I take it anyhow.

She says "it's a dead rat".

Okay...so I'm thinking why are you handing it to me?! And why would I care...

She says that she had some mouse poison in her "boot" and I'm not even sure what she meant by that. I think she was meaning the tarp that she has wrapped around her fifth wheel hitch for storage. Anyhow, she proceeds to tell me that I should put some poison out to kill the rats. Huh?

Couldn't she have just thrown the rat in the garbage, and if she really felt the need to tell someone about it she could have done so without carrying the bag to me. I mean, who does that?!

I don't get people. Very strange.

    1. There isn't one particular website that Kevin uses, there are several that he will check on regularly. Here is our post on flight deals with website addresses and how to try to get the best deal. www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2014/05/how-to-get-best-airfare-deals.html

BTW, the one for Bermuda is gone and no we aren't going, at least not at the moment.

  2. If you want to kill some dogs and cats be sure to put out some rat poison. Some people are difficult to understand.

    1. Or possibly some children! No, we will not be putting out any poison, you can be sure of that! Seems like everyone wants to kill all the wildlife that they don't like here.

  3. If she has an English accent, then "boot" would mean the trunk of her car. The hood would be the "bonnet".
    And I agree with Contessa.

    1. Nope, no English accent, that's why Kevin didn't know what she was talking about. They have a truck and a 5th wheel.

    1. We didn't book it Les, and the deal is gone. That's not to say that we won't go there, we just didn't feel the deal jumped out at us enough. Who knows maybe a better one will turn up and then we will jump on it.

  6. I think she wanted to impressed upon you to keep the park clean of rats.....but rats are everywhere and you can't get rid of them completely. She just needs to take care and seal her home. Weird people only give dead rats as a present...she's off her rocker.

    1. She lives in Alberta, and they don't have rats there so maybe she is afraid that they are getting closer to the border and will sneak in.

If we kill all the rats then the bull snakes won't have any food and then what will they do?

  8. You should have accused her of killing an endangered species---the rare Pink Nosed Saskatchewan Field Rat.

  9. Silly person. Why not just get rid of it. If she felt she had to make mention of it that would be one thing. Now I hope you can get rid of the flies, mosquitos, and all of Mother Nature's pestilence. :)

    1. Chris, we aren't sure why she didn't just get rid of it herself and then just tell us about it, maybe she thought we wouldn't believe her without the evidence.

Now we are all for getting rid of the mosquitoes though!

  10. View the dead rat incident the same way you view it when the cat leaves dead things on the door step. She was just trying to impress Kevin with her hunting skills! LOL

    1. We were trying to think of a nice "gift" for her and I came up with the idea of putting a live bull snake in a bag and giving it to her, saying that here's a present to help get rid of the rats for you!

  11. Think you will find life much easier once you have sold Sherman, Then you will be able to take up all these fantastic deal without having to get back to anywhere other than your job each summer. Guessing you have tried the reverse option of looking at the arrivals board for the airport you want to get to in Mexico and tracking back from there ?

    1. We agree Glen. Kevin is going to look into advertising it this fall/winter and hopefully by spring Sherman will be sold. We have such mixed feelings about it but we know that in the long run it is better to sell him.

Don't think Kevin has tried doing a reverse option but he does have a few things up his sleeve that we are hoping to hear from soon that should help us decide on how we will make our way to Mexico.
