Finally bought a VPN

We're not really planning on doing very much while we're here. Just kind of helping out around the house when we can, and driving the kids to various places.

On Monday, I drove granddaughter Sadie (will be 13 on Saturday) to a friends cottage. She'll be up there for two days and should return this afternoon. 

Cameron, at 15, always has something on the go. He has a part time job already, working at a bicycle shop two days a week. He likes that he gets a big discount! And he goes to a boxing club, and works out with taekwondo. And he likes going cycling with his friends.

So we haven't really seen much of the grandkids since we got back here! And Justin is off to work during the day, and Lindsey is often off doing something as well. So we've had the house pretty much to ourselves.

Oh, us and the animals... the new dog Ralph is a bundle of energy.

And we've been going for our 5 km (3 mile) power walk every day. It's not so interesting here, although part of our route takes us along an old railway trail that runs through a forest. Only problem is mosquitos! They are really bad here this year.

We had a visitor the other day! Our friend Bonnie is on an east coast road trip and made a detour all the way here from Prince Edward Island just to stop in for a couple of hours and say hi.

We first met Bonnie and Dave at an RV Park near Acapulco when they were traveling with their VW campervan. And we've since met up in New Mexico and Germany! Unfortunately Dave passed away a few months ago, and so she's now off exploring on her own. She's 81 now and doing part of this road trip camping in a tent! We love seeing single older women still out living life!

You would think it would be easy to watch my Blue Jays baseball now that we're back in Canada. But when we're in Mexico, or traveling, I watch it through our son's MLB subscription. And in Canada, the MLB subscription is blacked out because Sportsnet has the rights in Canada. So I had to either get a Sportsnet subscription, or a VPN so that I could trick the system into believing I wasn't in Canada.

Either one costs money, but I chose the VPN simply because of the long term deal. It was $112 CAD ($83 USD), but it doesn't expire until December 2028! So on a monthly basis, it's really quite cheap.

And there are other benefits to using a VPN. Mostly internet security, although we've never had a problem with that in the first place. But I can also now download television shows through our Starlink system when we're traveling Central America this winter. And, I can access BBC news that now requires a subscription.
