A little update on our South America camper

So we got the ATV back from the mechanic, and took it for a drive into town yesterday morning. It fired up right away, but didn't seem to idle properly, and even died while we were getting on it ready to go. It had never done that before.

We rode it into town and back without a problem, but it's not running right. A little disappointed, but already spoke to the mechanic and will be bringing it back to him on Monday.

On the bright side, the brakes work much better, and the handling is better too.

A little news on our South American camper build. I've been in contact with a sales location for the cab and chassis and the guy I'm dealing with is really good. He says the unit I want is a standard "in stock" unit for them, and even sent photos of one they have in stock right now.

Even has the air intake snorkel for driving through deep water!

So, that part of the research is pretty much complete. There's really nothing more than can be done until December/January when we will actually make the deal with them on a specific unit and pay for it between then and April when we will fly to Chile, pick it up, and  deliver it to the camper builder.

But, we've been watching lots of videos about other peoples overland vehicles getting ideas about how to organize the interior.  Lots of decisions to be made in that regard, and of course we'll be working closely (from afar!) with the guy doing the build. Fun times, but it's certainly a long term project since we don't plan on actually being able to drive it until October 2027!

In other news, Ruth thought she had retired. But now that we have the house, I sked if we should buy a cheap hair cutting kit. The price of a haircut in this area is about 150 pesos ($12.20 CAD, $8.75 USD), and the hair cutting kit was 450 pesos. So it will only take three haircuts to pay for itself. She did the first one yesterday, and boy was it overdue. (Just to clarify, this is just to cut my own hair... not other peoples!)
