Lots of water!

Wednesday night we had a lot of rain, together with a lot of thunder and lightning. We even had some hail. Surprisingly, we felt like we slept okay! Good thing we were parked on high ground though, as you'll see in the photos.

The weather turned out worse than forecast and we ended up sitting right where we were until just before the noon hour. Katja and Yves had taken off a little earlier than us, but not by a whole lot. They were taking a different route, but we will see them again down the road at some point.

When we finally got going, it was still spitting with rain. I think we decided to move just for a change of scenery because there wasn't much to do just sitting where we were.

A dull grey day.

Ruins along the side of the main road.

We stopped and filled with fuel. Once again the price has gone up since we arrived. We put in 70 liters at 14.59 lira per liter for diesel. That's $1.36 CAD, or €0.94 per liter, or $4.08 USD per gallon. That's still a lot better than Europe, but of course the price of fuel is going up everywhere. We are hoping that does us for the rest of the month.

We also topped up one of the propane gas tanks. The guys at the station had a big discussion in Turkish, with four of them involved. I don't think they had ever seen tanks like the ones Max has! But eventually they agreed to do it. Now that things have warmed up considerably, our gas should last a lot longer!

The entrance to the town of Yatağan has interesting street lights.

The mountains around Yatağan are full of marble.

There are a lot of businesses that process these huge blocks of marble.

Yes, we had a lot of rain!

A lot of flooded fields.

We made it to the seaside resort town of Akyaka. We are back in familiar territory now because we spent two weeks in this area when we were here in early November 2020. So we knew that there were some good free waterfront overnight spots a little further down the coastal road from the town.

First, we stopped at this convenient spring water station.

We woke up to beautiful blue sky this morning!

Today, we are headed into the resort city of Marmaris. We need to get laundry done, and some groceries, and we know a nice restaurant there! So we will go out for lunch!
