Finally got out for a bike ride!

I had a great birthday, thank you all for the birthday love!

This area is really fantastic for bike riding. And yesterday was perfect weather for doing exactly that! So I got the bikes off, and we went for a bike ride. I had a route planned that led to a cave, but I wasn't exactly sure what we would find there.

Like I said, it was a gorgeous day...

We took this paved farming road.
It was just like a bicycle path!

Scenery along the way.

We found the cave!

From the inside looking out.
Can you see Ruth?

A couple of friendly dogs came to say hello.

Hot springs water.
Except it really stunk of sulphur.

Loaded with oranges.

And the oranges are sweet and juicy with no seeds. Oh, and really inexpensive as well!

We ended up doing 22 kms (13.6 miles). Once we were on that paved farming road, we only saw two other vehicles. It was a really good biking road.

On the way back, we stopped in the town of Sarıgerme. It's really quiet at this time of year. The guy at the main store spoke English quite well, and invited us into his shop for a coffee. Really nice guy, We bought a few things, and noticed that he had 3 liter bottles of wine. We can't seem to get them in the larger stores which is kind of odd. But wine is fairly pricey in Turkey and the 3 liter bottles were not bad. We will stop in there when we leave with Max and pick up a couple.

They were calling for a rain day today, but so far we've had a couple of light showers and a fair bit of wind. But at least it's warm! The temperature didn't go below 13C last night and it's probably the warmest night we've had since October!

Not sure what's on the agenda for today. It does look like it's going to rain. We'll see.

And in Canada...

  1. Lucky you! That looked like such a beautiful place to ride, and great weather too. We are still chilly here in North Carolina and had freezing rain yesterday. It is finally warming up a bit today. I for one am ready for spring!

    1. It is a great area to ride bikes, we really enjoyed our ride. Hopefully we will be able to get out on our bicycles a little more now that the weather is better and we are in an area where we know that we can get out on them. Glad to hear that things are warming up a bit for you. Freezing rain is the worst, we would rather have snow at that point. It is warming up here for us too. :-)

  2. Inexpensive oranges are the best, the ones we got in Portugal were definitely the sweetest juiciest oranges ever. Good to see you had such a great day for your birthday.

    1. They sure are! We always talk about how good the oranges were in Portugal, the Turkish oranges are very similar.

Kevin had a really good day for his birthday, thank you. :-)

    1. The cave really didn't go very far in, not much more from where Kevin was standing but it sure was tall, and we still thought it was pretty neat too.
