One of our first worthwhile Australian sunset photos!

Checkout from the "holiday park" was at 10:00am. FIRM. NO EXCEPTIONS, as we read when we had signed in.

That's a little early. I would have thought 11:00am or even noon made more sense. But, we knew the rules! So we were up at a half decent hour and getting things packed up.

The "getting things packed up" doesn't really take us very long. But, I wanted to fill the fresh water tank, and top up the air pressure in the tires. And, we both wanted to take one last nice hot shower in their nice bathroom building.

So all that stuff takes time.

And before we knew it we were rushing to get out of there on schedule! Not that I think anybody would have bothered us during slow season. We probably could have stayed another hour or two and nobody would have said anything.

It was 10:08am when we pulled out the gate!

We stopped at the grocery store for a few more supplies and hit the road.

We hadn't gone very far when we saw a turn off for Ben Boyd National Park. We had seen the same signs south of Eden, but never went in because the detour looked too far. We hadn't realized that the park continues north of the town of Eden.

We so headed towards the ocean at "The Pinnacles".

A short trail took us down to the beach.

The pinnacles.

The beach was deserted.

Nobody around.

Ruth found a sea star.

No, they are no longer called "star fish" like we used to call them. I guess because they are not fish at all. Now, they are called sea stars.

Off in the distance, a seal had crawled up onto the beach for some sun.

What big nostrils you have!

We actually got quite close to it, and it didn't seem bothered by us.

I took a video for you...

Beach overlook.

Next stop was the town of Pambula Beach. We really only stopped there to have lunch, but of course there was a nearby walking trail, so we couldn't resist.

Looking back at Pambula Beach.

A not quite deserted beach!

This was actually a beautiful place, but sometimes a photo doesn't do it justice.

Looking for a free spot to camp along this part of the coast is a bit of a chore. I tried a dirt track that went about 5 kms (3 miles), but it didn't offer any opportunities.

Bundy enjoys these dirt tracks.
He was looking for something to use all four of his wheels, but there was no opportunity!

I saw a sign advertising a horse racing track. Hmmm.... they might have some parking available for a night...

Yep, this will do!

I went and asked one of the maintenance workers at the track if we could park for the night, and he said nobody would care.

One of our first worthwhile Australian sunset photos!

More great scenery coming up tomorrow.

  1. I am glad to read that we are not the only ones who need to scramble to meet check-out times whether camping or in a hotel. I love your travelogue.

    1. Normally we aren't rushing but when it is a 10:00am checkout time and the mornings are a little of the cool side and you just don't want to get out of bed, then it sometimes becomes a bit of an issue, lol.

    1. Thank you, that means a lot to us! We definitely want to see as many of the little out of the way places as we can along the small section of Australia that we have been travelling through. It is very difficult though because there are just so many beautiful spots. We can totally understand you not having seen them all. :-)

  3. Beautiful beaches, I wonder how busy they get in summer

    1. We have wondered the same thing! I am sure some of the ones in the towns would get pretty busy but some of the out of the way ones maybe not so much.
