There's a scorpion in the motorhome!

So I had just gone to bed last night, and Ruth was on the computer. I heard a bit of a shriek and Ruth saying "Kevin, there's a scorpion on the floor!".

Sure enough, there was a scorpion.

How does a scorpion find it's way into the motorhome?? Can't quite figure that out!

No, there was no time to get a photograph! This little guy had to be destroyed before he could crawl off into some safe little hiding spot. I grabbed the nearest heavy article...one of my hiking boots! And I crashed it down on him hard. But he was on the carpet and so that absorbed much of the blow. He was still moving, and quite quickly. But we got him, just before he reached the edge of the couch. And no, the remains were not worth getting a photo of either!

Man, they are nasty looking little creatures. This one was about two inches long.

We've seen scorpions in Mexico before. They typically hide under rocks and clumps of leaves. How one gets into the motorhome, we're not sure! Ruth had done laundry yesterday and the material of our folding laundry hamper had been sitting on the ground, so maybe it came in with that? Who knows?

Well, at least we got him before he got one of us.

We're hitting the road this morning! Totally enjoyed our visit here at Rancho Altarose RV Park, but it's time to move on. We expect to be on the road every couple of days until we get up to Creel in the Copper Canyon. As most of our regular readers know, we like to move slowly and we're not fans of long driving days. So we plan days where we can arrive at our destination by noon or so after spending no more than a couple of hours on the road.

And some drives will be much shorter than that!

In fact today, we're only planning on getting to La Cruz, a little community on the north shore of Bahia de Banderas. Our new friends from Louisiana, Pat and Geraldine are having a leak problem with the roof of their little Toyota motorhome so we said we would stop by and see if we can help. If the owner there will let us dry camp for 100 pesos ($8.20) or less, then we'll spend the night. If not, we'll carry on up to Sayulita.

So...we're excited to be on the road once again!

Dawn this morning, looking out at our backyard here at Rancho Altarose RV Park.

Only four days left to order through Amazon and get your delivery before Christmas. When you order anything through our links here, you pay the same price you would anyhow, but we make a small commission. For example, if you click the following link to this great deal on a telescope, and then end up ordering anything else instead, we still make a commission on whatever it is that you end up buying.

Thanks for thinking of us!

    1. We try hard to not have long days but as you said, sometimes you just have to do it.

  4. This was one of the slightly bigger issues when we were living in Puerto Rico. I know *someone* who is really not keen on bugs and well, critters that tend to scurry around under foot. Quite often under bare feet. We had "hormijas locas" along with anoles (they were cute, no harm) along with a couple bigger lizards outside our front door. Cockroaches, but only a few. And then, there were the fire ants. Oh, and I did see a half dead centipede in our garage. I think he had been into whatever the Bug Man had been disseminating, since he was nearly dead. He was also over five inches long! Didn't touch that sucker. So happy we hired a Bug Man.
But never a scorpion. I don't feel deprived somehow.

    1. I don't mind seeing all these wonderful bugs and critters outside but I definitely have an issue with them when they are on the inside, especially if they can inflict injury and pain!

We will happy deal with this kind of problem compared to shoveling snow and the freezing cold temperatures.

    1. Thanks Leslie, we agree with the snail pace, there is always something to see. For us the journey includes the whole trip not just the destination.

  6. When we did that gate guarding job in south Texas a year or so ago I took the night shift. I'd sit outside with my legs propped up off the ground... scorpions, tarantulas and sometimes snakes would often be making their midnight run underneath my chair.

    1. I believe that and I wouldn't be wearing sandals at night either! Now that we have had the scorpion in the motorhome I don't like letting my feet dangle on the floor when I am sitting, especially in the evening while watching a movie with all the lights off but one.
