Business cards and breakfast

When we travel, we meet a lot of people. And when you meet people, you want to stay in touch. We learned when we set out almost five years ago that we needed "business" cards so that it's easy to give out our email address and website address, and now our Facebook page.

They're not really business cards...I guess you'd call them personal cards? Anyhow, two years ago we ordered 250 of them through a company called Vistaprint. They came out really nice and we liked them but we were running low so yesterday I ordered 250 more. I changed the design a little and included some different info. Including shipping and taxes and a discount coupon I had, the total bill was $28.00. Not bad, considering they last us over two years. In fact, I think for about $4 more we could have ordered 500 of them but I figured things might change in two years time or we might want a different design then.

They'll be delivered to our mailing address in Ottawa, so they'll be waiting for us when we get there in a couple of weeks.

Here's the new design...

So as I was finishing making the order, the last page that came up was a discount page that you could share with friends. If you visit Vistaprint through the following link you will receive $5 off your order...

And if you do make an order through this link, we will also receive $5 off our next order! Good deal for both of us. They don't only do business cards, they also do a bunch of other promotional items.

Doug and Nancy are leaving this morning, so yesterday morning they took us all out for breakfast. It was a nice spot that we had never been to before.

You know your orange juice is fresh when there are seeds floating in it!
Delicious!

Time to go vote...

  5. We too ordered our personal cards from Vistaprint. The first time we did the free cards, but found that we really wanted to place our photo on the cards. When we receive personal cards from our neighbors, we can easier remember the ones with photos on them.
    Voting now.

  6. Oh darn...we just ordered our cards a few weeks ago. I love Vista Print. They do such a great job and when you figure the cost for card stock and ink, I think it is a REALLY good deal - plus they don't smear.

The orange juice does look fresh!!

  8. I had been a bit put off by the "free" card offers I got for Vista Print from American Express. The shipping was absurd. But with your recommendation, I will give them another look. Obviously through your link.

I do recall some good menudo at that restaurant as well.

  10. I just found your blog and am enjoying reading through it. I have cards through the same company and I use them a lot in my travels. When I get good service in a restaurant (or anywhere) I leave a card with the tip and write a 'thank you note' on the back. Some of those people are now faithful followers of my blog, www.sailingdowntheroad.blogspot.com.
I have a Verizon mifi for picking up the Internet and have been pretty disappointed with it. And the $50 per mo. is pretty steep for their service. I have learned that most hospitals have wifi that you can pick up in their parking lots. Add that to Starbucks, McDonalds, Paneras, all public libraries and some downtown areas, even some marinas, parks and a whole host of new Internet Cafes and I have decided not to renew my contract with Verizon.

    1. Thank you for your comment Toni. Hope you enjoy our adventures.

We have used the Telcel stick in Mexico and have been very happy with it. It is certainly not as easy to find free wifi in Mexico. We have never tried the Verizon so we can't really comment on it. In Canada we have a Bell Mifi and were happy with it but it is expensive as well. As you say there are many places to pick up a free wifi signal but when you are parked up in the middle of nowhere it isn't so easy.

  11. Thanks for the VistaPrint link. I had been thinking about getting cards and, now that I think about it, having a photo on there is a good idea.

  13. I can understand why you and others use companies like Vistaprint - their prices can't be beat. But sadly they put us 'designers' out of work.....
