August is going to be a busy month for us

Today, we will arrive at Max's home base here in Germany where he will take a break for the next three months or so. Tomorrow will be a bit of a day off for us. Well, sort of. At least there won't be any driving involved. I feel like I need a break from driving.

Then Wednesday we drive up to Munster. It's only a half an hour or so, but it's the nearest location that has a laundromat!

Then on Thursday, we take the train to Amsterdam. We have an Airbnb booked for Thursday night, and then we head to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport first thing Friday morning for our 1:10pm flight to Montreal.

In Montreal, we have an Airbnb right beside the airport booked for Friday night. Then Saturday morning we fly from Montreal to Calgary. Arrive in Calgary about noon, and hop into a rental car for the five hour drive to Cabri, Saskatchewan to spend a couple of days at the park we used to manage.

After that, we stop in to visit friends Barry and Jeannie in Taber, Alberta, then back up to Calgary where I meet with all of my guy friends for a three day weekend away in Jasper. Ruth will stay with friends in Calgary while I'm gone.

Then we fly Calgary to Ottawa, and Ottawa to Halifax. Our daughter Lindsey and her family are moving back to Nova Scotia, so we are headed out there to spend a couple of weeks with them to finish off the month.

Like I said, its going to be a busy month! We're going to be on eight different airplanes over the next six weeks or so!

Yesterday morning started off with another ferry ride as we had to cross the Elbe River. We decided to try and make the very first ferry at 6:45am.

A freighter on the Elbe River lit up by the early morning sun.

Getting on the ferry.

It was a little more expensive than I thought it was going to be. It cost €22 ($29 CAD, $22.50 USD) for Max and two adults. But, it saved about 100 kms of driving, plus we didn't have to drive through the city of Hamburg.

We had breakfast on the other side, and by the time we left there was a huge lineup for the ferry. The boat leaves every half hour, but some of these people would be waiting hours.

Long lineup for the ferry.

Interesting rig!

Just a church.

Old German architecture.

How to make your house look like a castle.

We arrived in the town of Rahden about 2:00pm. They have a really nice free motorhome parking area with free WiFi as well. We figured mid afternoon on a Sunday there would be a few empty spots but we got there and all the eight motorhome sites were taken. We parked in the car parking area to wait and see if someone left, but then we realized that we were better off staying in the car park area!

Max is better off in the car parking area!

It turned out there were no cars in the car parking area, so we just stayed there.

Used up the last of our Norwegian salmon.
We're going to miss that!

  1. That could take some getting used to, being back on Canadian soil. You won't have the interesting scenery you have now.

    1. Yes, it is definitely going to feel a bit weird to be back in Canada again. I am sure we will have a bit of culture shock as well as sticker shock!

We are going to be in a number of different parts of Canada so we are going to see some beautiful and varied scenery but it will certainly be hard to match the gorgeous scenery that we saw in Norway.
