April Expenses

We spent a lot of money in April!

Total expenses came to $2,993 CAD ($2,250 USD).  I checked back through the records, and April is always an expensive month for us because we're often returning to Canada at that time of year. This year was the highest yet though, because there was a lot of flying involved. Plus, we were a couple of weeks in Ottawa and we always seem to spend more money there than when we're traveling!

Here's how it all broke down...

Note - the following figures are in Canadian dollars. For U.S. dollar equivalent, you can subtract about 25%.

Gasoline: We put some fuel in our daughter's car and in the car we used to get from Moose Jaw to the park. Total of $100 between the two.

Grocery: Actually lower than normal at $283. But that is reflected in the much higher than average Entertainment expenses because we ate out quite a few times at the beginning of the month while in Morocco.  Also, the huge grocery shop we did upon arrival here right at the end of April is being expensed in May because that's when it will all be eaten.

Alcohol: We didn't do any drinking in Morocco, and only a little while we were in Ottawa. Total of $23.

Miscellaneous: Slightly higher than we strive for, at $232. But, Ruth's eye exam ($70) is in there, and a couple of other abnormal expenses.

Entertainment: Ouch. We spent $598 between meals out and tourist items. Our excursion to the Sahara Desert was $200 of that. And meals out were $212.

Overnight: Again higher than expected. We thought Morocco was going to be an inexpensive country to visit, but for fairly basic accommodation we paid $518 for 14 nights. An average of $37 a night.

Travel: We were on 5 different airplanes in April! And two train rides. Total came to $1,200 for the two of us. Tangier to Barcelona, Barcelona to Ottawa, and Ottawa to Regina.

And so it all adds up to $2,993 CAD.

But, the next five months we will be in saving mode as we stash money away for next season's travel adventures.

    1. Thanks Lori! We love the mountains too but not sure that we can say we "love" the prairies but we certainly love the skies here and the actual area that we spend our summers at. :-)

    1. Thanks Roger! I was just saying to Kevin yesterday that we will have to do a post this summer just on the skies in Saskatchewan because they are beautiful. There is a reason that Saskatchewan's motto is "Land of the Living Sky"!
