A beautiful day in cottage country

We woke up to an absolutely beautiful fall day here in "cottage country".

They call this part of Ontario "cottage country" because it's located about an hour and a half north of Toronto and since about the 1950's, the more affluent would build a weekend getaway in this area. It used to be a pretty quiet area, but of course it's getting more and more built up over the years, and lakefront property is now ridiculously expensive.

We went with our son Alex and their dog Lucy for a before breakfast walk on the shore of Lake Muskoka...

Back at their house in Gravenhurst for breakfast...

A little different type of maple syrup!

Later in the morning, they took us to the Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery. They are one of the two only producing cranberry farms in Ontario. They also have a small restaurant, and a system of trails. We did about 9 kms (5.4 miles) on the trails...

Wood carvings in the forest.

We made it to Phat Eddie, an erratic boulder left over from the glaciers.

The Bala Bog Monster.

That statue has been around!

We bought a taster tray of the various cranberry based wines they produce here.

From there, we went over to CJ's parents house for afternoon drinks and dinner. They have a beautiful "cottage" on Morrison Lake.

Alex made dinner!
Chicken pesto with sweet potatoes and beans.

Back at the house where we watched the Blue Jays squeak out a win in a 13 inning game against the Red Sox.

Today looks like a rain day, which is okay since we have to do the long drive back to Ottawa.

And in Canada...

    1. We have to say that RVing/motorhoming is our favourite way to travel but sometimes that isn't always possible. We are definitely looking forward to this winter's plans, it should be an interesting time for us. :-)
