Just enough for a change of scenery

We're finding it hard to get anywhere fast here in Norway. Not that it matters really! Yesterday, we managed to do 56 kms (35 miles)! Just enough for a change of scenery.

But we ended up at the prettiest little village, with the prettiest view from our overnight spot.

As we were getting ready to leave our spot at the ski hill, I noticed this snake in the grass...

Another common European viper.
If you look closely, there is a second one lurking in the top left corner of the photo.

We drove past the town of Hafslo.

Yet another waterfall.

We stopped at the Glacier Museum, but quickly retreated back to the motorhome after seeing the 140 kr ($18.30 CAD, $14.20 USD) admission fee. Reading reviews, many people thought it was overpriced for what you get. We'll pass.

But, there are a few nice views from the location...

We drove to the little town of Fjaerland. There used to be a popular ferry port here until they built a tunnel 20 years ago that eliminated the need for the ferry. So the town kind of died, but has been revitalized by... used book stores! There are about a dozen used book stores and apparently people come from miles around to buy books.

There's also a wash building at the dock that has community bathrooms and showers... and a washing machine! We had to pay 25 kr ($3.25 CAD, $2.55 USD) at one of the bookstores to take advantage of the washing machine. There is no dryer though, so Max looks a little cluttered with laundry hanging everywhere!

Walking around the village, I found a great overnight spot. And it's listed on the park4night app, so I was surprised there was nobody already there. We quickly moved Max over before anybody else took it first!

Yep, this will do for a night!

The view out our side window!

Fjaerland, Norway.

The local church.

Zoomed in on part of the glacier.

We had some rain showers later in the afternoon, but still managed to get out for a 5 km (3 mile) walk. We bought the umbrellas with us, but didn't need them. The road leading south from Fjaerland is more of a cycle path than a road, but there are still apparently some overnight spots further down that motorhomes and campervans use.

We're actually going to take the bikes out for a ride further down this morning. Such a beautiful area. Apparently we can go 20 kms (13 miles) or so.

The road is even freshly paved!

Scenery along the way.

Looking back at where we came from.

By evening, two other motorhomes had joined us. One other German rig who parked behind us, and a rig from the UK.

Yesterday's drive 56 kms (35 miles).

Nice price drop on the popular blurams line of Security Cameras.

And in Canada...

  1. I've been catching up on your Norway posts and can only say wow you 2 are a credit to yourselves and the countries you visit - you do totally appreciate the natural beauty as you travel. As a freedom camper again I can only say wow at the brilliant places you have stopped at Norway is very generous.

    1. Thank you so much to the lovely compliment! We truly do try to appreciate everything that a country has to offer and in many cases it is the scenery that we love the most. We really are outdoor people so being in a country like Norway where there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy, it is hard not to love the scenery.

We certainly have found some wonderful places to overnight at, some have been better than others but almost all of them have had a good view and have given us a nice night. :-)
