We leave in less than two weeks!

Canadian income taxes are normally due at the end of April. But because of Covid, the Canadian government kept delaying the date at which you would be charged interest and/or penalties and eventually the date became September 30th. So I bit the bullet and paid them yesterday. It sure did look better in my account than in theirs!

I feel like we didn't get very good value for our money. They don't tend to spend it very wisely.

Oh well... as the old saying goes, 'nothing in the world can be as certain as death and taxes'.

Of course we now have to keep in mind that we will have to pay them again in only 7 months.

I had a great weekend with the boys, but we were all headed back home by 10:00am yesterday morning. Quite a bit of traffic, but nobody seemed to be in much of a rush. Sunday drivers. I didn't stop to take any photos because it was overcast most of the time. Had the sun been shining with some blue sky it would have made for some great photos.

Ruth had a good weekend too. Lindsey came up with the kids and Chester the dog on Saturday so they had a fun day together. She spent Sunday morning house cleaning. It sure is a big house to have to clean!

And we are doing final preparation for our upcoming trip. We leave in less than two weeks!

Yesterday, I bought a UK SIM card for the phone. I know that I could have bought one in London's Gatwick airport when we land, but I couldn't find any accurate recent info regarding prices. So I ended up buying one from Amazon Canada. It's with a company called Three UK and I get 12GB of data with a whole bunch of minutes and text messages for $29.95 CAD ($22.40 USD, €19, £17.40) which I thought was pretty cheap. It's valid for 30 days and is supposed to work everywhere in Europe.

Next up on the agenda is to make a final decision regarding travel medical insurance. Of course they make it so complicated that you almost need a lawyer to go over it for you to compare the policies, and I'm sure they do that so that you end up paying more than you should. I'll update you all on the final decision tomorrow.

Oh... in case you haven't heard yet... Amazon Prime Day in set for October 13th and 14th. If you don't already have a Prime membership you can get a 30 day trial here and take advantage of the deals.

  1. Taxes: We came to Canada as self employed people. After 5 years we finally made money and I was really happy to pay taxes.

    1. Of course. My accountant used to say that if I paid lots of taxes, it meant that I made lots of money!

And although that is a good thing, it doesn't make up for the fact that when we give it to them, they don't spend it very wisely.

    1. If we were ahead we would be wanting our money right away too, so we would have filed as soon as we could, as Kevin said the money looks better in our bank account then in theirs! :-)
