Sherman's repairs are complete!

You haven't heard from us for a couple of days because there hasn't been much to say. We had been parked up for three days and two nights in the mechanical garage parking lot. Well, we were actually parked inside the garage during the day... and outside at night.

Once again, S&L Auto Repairs in Amarillo looked after us well. Head mechanic Ismail did the repairs along with his assistant Isaac. The bill was not cheap, but it was about what I expected.

So, this time around, we replaced the RF upper control arm and ball joint, the RV brake caliper, the RF brake hose, the RR brake cylinder and seal, and the RR brake lines and junction block.

The parts and materials cost $237 USD, and the labor was $1,080 USD.

Add in a little bit of tax, and the total bill was $1.366 USD.

That in itself doesn't sound too bad... it's when you turn it into Canadian dollars that it hurts a little!

$1,948 CAD.

But I'm glad we got all that done. Sherman is once again ready for some miles!

The other reason you haven't heard much from us is our cellular connection has been goofy. I think it's the phone itself acting up, but for now I have reactivated our Verizon Jetpack. Again, not cheap given the exchange rate, but they do have a special on right now where we got 30 GB of data $74 USD ($105 CAD).

So that will keep us better connected to you all for the next month.

Here's where we were parked last night in Borger, TX.

That's enough for now... we've got some driving to do. But not very much... more info tomorrow.

  1. For all the years of use you have on the MH that is not a bad "rent' price. Some folks told me I did wrong to put a new refrigerator in my 15 year old trailer, but trailer just keeps on rolling so I might have made the right choice. In both of our cases time will tell.

    1. We think so too! When you consider the original cost of the mortorhome back in the fall of 2007 and all the money that we have put into both repairs and regular maintenance for all those years, we have done really, really well overall. It helps when you know what your RV is like, whether it is old or not. Only you know your unit, not someone else and you normally have a good feel for how it is doing. Plus these older units were made so much better than the new stuff that is coming out. Sounds like you made the right choice, at least so far. :-)

  2. And don't forget you got two nights of "free" camping also.

  3. Now Sherman will be ready for many more worry free miles.
Know what you mean about converting that to Canadian Dollars. Hurt us bad last winter.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Yep, that exchange rate is killing us at the moment. It is a good thing most things are closed so that we don't have to worry about spending "extra" money on stuff.

  4. since your full time I guess 2K Canadian is not bad. I am facing a 5K assesment for woindows in my townhouse, although covid has put it on hold. BTW, on that subject, Sask is in the best shape of all the provinces

    1. Nope not bad at all, especially when you consider the amount of money that we have spent on Sherman since the fall of 2007, we think we have done really well overall for those past 12 1/2 years. We spent way less money on him, even with his purchase price than we would have spent on a house over the same time frame and he has taken us to many incredible places over that time. :-)

Yes, Saskatchewan has made out quite well with the COVID-19 virus. They announced yesterday that campgrounds will be able to open up June 1st but only every second site. Not sure how that will work out for places that have mostly seasonal campers in them though.
