Cape Town views

We drove back downtown yesterday. First goal was to find some gluten free bread. Second was to visit with a lady we had couchsurfed with back towards the beginning of January.

We knew where we wanted to go for the bread. The Wellness Warehouse on Kloof St.

But first, we walked around the Bo Kaap residential area, where many homes are brightly painted with pastel colors.

Looking towards downtown from Bo Kaap.

Busy Cape Town intersection.

At the Wellness Warehouse, we found a great selection of gluten free bread, as well as a restaurant that will make you a sandwich with gluten free bread. We each had a sandwich, cost was around R55 ($5.89) a little pricey by Cape Town standards, but really, really good!

Lunch!

And, the bread was excellent. We bought two loaves! Soft and moist and made mostly with potato flour. Cost was R35 ($3.75) per loaf. Very expensive bread, because regular bread can be bought here for as little as R8 ($0.85) per loaf.

From there, we drove down to the Green Point waterfront area. Did a lot of walking, and hardly anybody around. This area doesn't really have any beaches though, but the pathway along the shore is popular with cyclists and runners.

We met our couchsurfing friend Nettie there and sat and had a cold drink with her and told her about our last two months. I should have taken a picture of it, but they just bought a Toyota pickup truck with an old camper on it and I was showing them some of the workings of the fridge etc. Nice little rig and it would be great for doing some camping in South Africa and area.

Green Point area of Cape Town.

Got to bed at a reasonable hour, because we had a big hike up Cape Town's Table Mountain planned for today. Tell you all about it in the next post!

    1. The cost of living for US citizen is actually cheaper here in South Africa than it is in most parts of the United States but the airfare is what costs the most. So glad that you have enjoyed our travels here.

    1. We tried to get an early start but it wasn't as early as we were hoping for. The actual climb up (the steepest part) was all in the forest so we were very shaded there, on the top you were in the full sun for most of the time but it was just a little cooler there and we certainly didn't feel super hot until we got the cable station, then we really started to notice it.

  6. The colors remind me a bit of Mexico although the colors here are not pastel. So glad you got the bread, a nice change for you.

    1. Yep, it reminded us a little of Campeche in Mexico. It was wonderful having bread and we went through both loaves before we left Cape Town.
