Walk around Gaspereau Valley, Nova Scotia

Beautiful fall day yesterday, with the temperature reaching 22C (73F). That's pretty warm for a mid October day in this part of the world! Ruth and daughter Lindsey took grandson Cameron to daycare in the morning, and I went for a fast paced 5 km (3 mile) walk.

I did stop for a few photos though. Like I've said, this is a pretty area. There are a lot of pretty areas in Nova Scotia!

Near Wallbrook, N.S.

The United Church in Wallbrook.

I came across a young snapping turtle at the side of the road. He was about 8 inches long. These nasty turtles can grow to 45 lbs and can take off your finger with one bite. This one was young, but I still didn't get too close to him!

Sharp claws!

The Gaspereau River.

Just relaxed in the afternoon and Justin's father came over for dinner. Today, we're going for a hike to a waterfall. Nice out so far, but supposed to rain this afternoon.

Lindsey, Sadie, and Cameron.

  6. when we had our pond a snapper decided to make it its home. well we had fish and had other ideas. sam wound up shooting it, it was huge. in general I like to leave nature alone, but the fish couldnt get away being in an enclosed area.

    1. That and the fact that you wouldn't want it to get near any of grandchildren, they can be pretty vicious!

  7. Kevin, forgot to mention, I met a couple at Bryce Canyon National Park from Saskatchewan who live on a lake north of Sturgeon Lake (sorry, I forgot the name); but I told them about you and Ruth and your summer adventure there. They're visiting National Parks on their way to winter in Palm Springs - said this is their 16th year!

    1. Perhaps they will stop by and visit us next summer if we are back up in Saskatchewan.

  8. Such a beautiful part of the country. We're enjoying lovely fall weather here on the west coast, too. But it is chilly until the sun comes up. Unfortunately it's foggy today.

    1. Happy to hear that you are having great weather out west. We never mind if it is cool or even cold at night as long as it's warm and sunny during the day. Hope it keeps up for you!
