St. Louis to Oklahoma City

Well, not quite Oklahoma City, but pretty close. We did get an early start because we wanted to do a long drive. We've been away from "home" since May and now that we're getting close we are kind of feeling like we just want to get there.

When we got up this morning, it was 28F (-2C). That's a bit chilly and the little blue car wanted to head further south!

Brrr!

We filled up with some more cheap gasoline at $3.13 a gallon (about $0.84 a litre) before leaving the St. Louis area, but we saw it as low as $2.98 a gallon ($0.79 a litre) along the way.

They need six lanes here? Not much traffic.

Saw a nice mural in the town of Granby, Missouri just before the Oklahoma border.

By the time we passed Tulsa, it was after 5:00pm.

We started looking for somewhere to spend the night and the first dumpy motel we stopped at wanted $40, tax included. We figured that was overpriced for the place, so we carried on. Found another spot here in Chandler, Oklahoma about 50 miles east of Oklahoma City. Paying $45 tax included, which is still overpriced, but it's not that bad.

Long driving day! We did 455 miles (735 kms).

  1. Know that feeling of wanting to get home. Especially sleeping in motel rooms along the way. And cold weather - so glad you're moving south quickly.

  3. Sleeping in motels, or actually not wanting to, was the chief reason we bought the motorhome in 2001. (since sold)
My wife and sister had this idea that a drive to the East Coast was in our future, and I absolutely wasn't going to sleep in any of the two bit dumps I had been forced to stay in as a teenager going down east with my parents. Most places like that should be condemned I think, since there's no telling when they've been given a thorough cleaning, if ever.
Creeps me out just thinking about it. Gah!

    1. We totally agree with you, when you have the motorhome with you, you then have your own bed with you.

    1. Thank you Pete, Kevin had heard of that site but had never visited it. It is a great site for discounted hotel prices, we will keep that in mind for future travels.
