We'd rather be out hiking or exploring

Well, we're still puttering away at the work around the house. Ruth is probably 3/4 done the gardening... she only has one bad section left to do.

I started cleaning the exterior siding on the house. The beige colored vinyl siding is turning green. It probably hasn't been cleaned in over 15 years. I started with the worst part first... the hardest to get to area at the top of the back of the house.

With that part done, I can now do the rest of it using the pressure washer.

Ruth, working on the garden.

Before.

After.

And, I spent some more time on the basement. I'm probably 1/3 finished now! Ruth's father had been living here since about 1966, and I swear there is stuff in the basement that hasn't been touched by human hands since then. I'm probably exaggerating, but not by much!

I came across an old military rifle and sword. The rifle looks like a double barreled shotgun of some kind, but I;m not a gun person so don't know anything more about it. It may be worth something to a collector, but we'll have to figure out what it is first!

The sword was fairly easy to look up because there are markings on it. Looks like it dates back to a British Artillery Unit around the 1860's. We figure it must have belonged to a relative, but the initials J.W.T. on it don't match up to any of the known relatives. It seems to be worth somewhere between $600 and $1,000 if you can find the right buyer.

We went and visited Lindsey, Justin, and the kids for dinner on Monday.

Lindsey, Ruth, and Silly Sadie doing a jigsaw puzzle.

And we've been keeping up with our daily power walk.

Scenery along the way.

There is too much to do, and the time is flying by. We'd rather be out hiking or exploring somewhere!

Off to visit my mother this morning, and then take the grandkids for a walk.

    1. And this is why we got rid of our house so many years ago, it was just too much work and not enough time exploring. :-)

The garden is really starting to look pretty again. I have to say that I will be happy when I have it all done and then I just have to do a bit of maintenance to it each week. I really want to get started on something different for a change.

    1. Your day sounds a little more relaxing than what ours did.

Glad that you were able to get a reservation made. We are hearing that many of the campgrounds here in Canada are much the same, very busy!

    3. Wow, they don't make things as well today as they did years ago, 9 years isn't old at all for things to be breaking on a fridge!

  5. Great work on the garden, Ruth. It looks lovely! I know how much work that is. Hope it is not hot, which makes gardening so much less pleasant

    1. Thank you Emily! It is definitely coming along. By the time I am finished with the whole garden, it will be time to start back at the beginning, luckily by then it won't take me so long to go through it again. It is a lot of work for sure. Some days have been hot but the temperature is getting much more manageable now. When it was really hot, I tried to work in the shade as much as possible.
