Could be a bread baking day tomorrow!

Some states have taken the drastic measures of totally closing all of their state parks.

Here in Texas, they have taken a more logical approach. Each state park has their own rules as to how they limit the number of people coming into the park. We are at Hill Country State Natural Area where they have very few campsites to begin with, and they are really well spaced apart. Campers with reservations are allowed into the park, and then they limit the number of day users and when that limit is reached that's it.

And it's different at each park, so we have to plan our route carefully.

For now though, we are staying put. This is a great park, and we were able to book two more nights. That puts us here through the weekend, and weekends are the most difficult to plan for.

The weather isn't the best though, which in our experience is typical whenever we are in Texas. They are calling for some rain every day for the next week. Temperature is not bad today with a high of about 72F (22C), but it's supposed to cool off overnight down to 50F (10C) and then only a high of 58F (14C) tomorrow.

Could be a bread baking day tomorrow!

Yesterday, the six of us went for a hike. They have over 40 miles (64 kms) of trails here, so that will easily keep us busy over the next 3 days.

Ice Cream Hill Trail!

We ended up doing 7.3 miles (11.7 kms) and we were out for about three and a half hours. Great exercise and fresh air. Looking forward to heading out again today.

  1. Thanks for the heads-up on Texas. I'll be headed that way in a week or so.Being warm certainly helps.

    1. You're more than welcome. Just keep up on it because things are changing daily and you never know if or when Texas Parks might get shut down too.

  2. Have you and Ruth,(from Saskatchewan), Denise and Bob(Ontario) and Aron and Owenita(Nova Scotia) thought about how people in Canada as well as the United States perceive the posting of your travels and recent writings in your blog. Some of your recent pictures show your total disregard for, "Physical Distancing". To start your post that Texas has taken a more logical approach shows your selfishness and total disregard for your fellow human beings. You are guests in another country. I certainly would label you all as, “Covidiots” and a “Disgrace to Canada.”

Greg Abbott the Governor of Texas, in his directive on Tuesday outlined the requirement for residents to minimize not-essential gatherings and in-person contact, though, it did not expressly ask residents to stay in their homes.
Doctors/Scientists are stating that “Physical Distancing” shows a significant difference in the numbers for this disease. This is serious and stark. Yesterday, the number of cases world wide went over a million people. The number of deaths is close to 56,000 people. In Texas yesterday there was 755 new cases and 17 deaths. Today in Ontario, their government predicted 3 to 5 thousand deaths, and stated that had “Physical Distancing” not been put in place, the deaths could have been as high as 100,000. The number of deaths in the US could be as high as 200,000.

Will you only understand the seriousness, if someone close to you contracts the virus? Do you not have any feelings for the millions in both countries who are out of work and are wondering how their families will get through this disruption in their lives? Why would you voice concern for lack of accommodation or choice of closures by local governments?

Why are you not travelling directly back to Canada now? As time progresses you are certainly going to encounter an increase in local protectionism, as seen recently in Florida. If any of you get sick have you thought about the extra burden you will place on the resources of the community you are in and how your presence there will be perceived? Go home now, or at least stop posting .

    1. Well Peter, fortunately, your opinion means as much to me as what I paid for it. You obviously have zero idea of the thought we have put into our situation in order to comply with all of the recommendations being given to the community. I am not about to stop posting simply because you "told" me to. So, feel free to stop reading.

    2. Laughable to read this 2 years later.

  3. Gotta love public shaming! I think Peter doesn't realize that your group would be considered a family unit and are simply doing what any of us in a house are doing, staying with our family and venturing to public places (like groceries) only when necessary. Considering you stockpiled and made food ahead before entering the US, I think you are well ahead of most people in the US. Name calling and spewing a bunch of numbers that are, in all reality, never going to be accurate anyhow is pointless. I'm glad you are finding a way to get by without holing up in Sherman. If the US had taken all this more seriously - LIKE CANADA DID - I think Peter may have some legs to stand on. My city an province was shut down long before the US, where as many US citizens and states are still very lax about it all.

    1. You are totally correct about the family unit thing. Other than these four people we stay away from others and if we do come in contact with people we stay more than the required distance away from them. We have no plans on being out in the public other that to get groceries or gas and when we do, we do it with all the precautions that we can and we limit our time doing it as well. And we will keep up being totally responsible during our travels north.

  4. Oh my goodness - what a horrible post from this Peter! but not surprising - public shaming has become more of an "in thing" . We will be watching closely to see what you encounter as you travel through the U.S. We are now in Arizona, going to return to Wyoming, and both states take a more logical view, in our opinion, about people needing to be outdoors. Please let me offer my apology if that repulsive Peter is from the U.S.

    1. Thank you for your support Jerry! We certainly aren't taking this virus lightly and we are doing everything and more, than is required of us.

  5. If I need to be repulsive, name call, spew numbers to prevent even 1 death then it will be worth it. When members of your own family, both immediate and extended who work in the medical profession, that is scared because of a virus that no one is sure about, “except it can kill,” then so be it.

    1. I think that you need to preach this more to the people that aren't following the rules, than to us that are. We are taking this seriously and will continue to follow the rules and regulations set out the the many different governments and staying away from the general public as much as we possibly can.

  6. Well...Peter... Kevin and Ruth along with the other four people have been "living together" for several months. They have been "sleeping" in their own rooms (RV's) so they actually are no different than my family of 5. The Virus is SERIOUS there is zero doubt about it. This virus is actually SARS-2, and like SARS-1 which created the H1N1. SARS-2 has created the Coronavirus. This is a STRONG and SERIOUS virus and EVERYONE must take it serious. This virus is killing people like the H1N1 did, and the worst part of this virus is the fact that many people are not taking it serious. This virus is spread not only by droplets but also through the AIR. People gathering inside, breathing the same AIR is going to infect each other. At this point and time, as long as Kevin and Ruth and their traveling companions DO NOT gather with others or spend time unprotected inside a building that does not have purified air cleaning system they will most likely be okay. Now, if they happen on to a happy hour table and someone sat there earlier who was a carrier or infected, that will change the situation because at that point they will become exposed and infected. Ideally, the Canadians should go home, and the Americans should stay home. The way to kill this virus off is to stay home and not go out, period. Here is a link of one of the BEST surgeons explaining the truth about the virus and how it will affect and how it will kill at person. Enjoy this... it is FACTUAL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J0d59dd-qM

    1. Yes, we are a "family unit" and we are treating each other that way but with the public we stay the required distance away if not more. We are adhering to all the rules and regulations and limiting our trips and time to go out to do groceries. Only one person goes in to do this, again to limit exposure. We wash our hands before entering the store, when returning to our motorhome and again once groceries are put away. We are staying in places that are in the middle of nowhere whenever possible, we don't want to get this virus and we don't want to unknowingly pass it on either should we have it. We feel that we are being very responsible and will continue to be diligent about it.
