We head to the airport at 7:00am

We are back at our daughter's place. Busy household right now because our son came for a visit yesterday as well and ended up staying the night. Great to have the family together.

Gave back our rental car yesterday, so we are carless for the rest of our stay here. No plans, although Ruth is going to borrow Lindsey's car to go to her 40th anniversary high school reunion.

The final bill for the car rental was $1,032 CAD ($782 USD) for 38 days. An average of $27.15 CAD ($20.60 USD) per day. Not great, but sometimes there are just no deals to be had.

We drove 3,200 kms (1,984 miles). But at least it was a fuel efficient car!

And we spent $176 CAD ($134 USD) on fuel. We used 157 liters (41.5 gallons), so our fuel mileage was a very good 48 mpg!

Today, we are taking the kids for a hike in the Gatineau Hills on the Quebec side of the river.

And Sunday morning, we head to the airport at 7:00am for our flights to Ecuador. Again, it's a bit of a convoluted flight route, but we don't mind... Ottawa to Washington, Washington to Panama City, and Panama City to Quito, Ecuador.

Speaking of which, we can check in now!

Have a great Saturday.

  1. That's a hefty bill for the car rental, at least you got to get around and see people. Nice to have a good long visit before you are off and travelling again! Can't wait for photos of the trip to Ecuador!

    1. Yep, it was a big one but we needed wheels to drive around so we didn't have a huge choice at least it was still the best deal in town and it had unlimited mileage which was a good thing since we put lots of miles on it.

Looks like you will be waiting for a while for those pictures! :-(

  2. I always find great deals on car rentals when I don't need a car. Figures, eh? ;c)

    1. This was one of the rare times that Kevin couldn't find a great deal on one, usually he finds a great deal.

  4. I hope Ruth has a great time at her 40th high school reunion. I am missing my 40th as I write this, but it can't be helped, as we are in Mexico, and the reunion is in North Carolina. Hoping to see lots of photos online and catch the 45th or 50th! Safe travels, you two.

    1. I did have a great time at my 40th high school reunion. We are one of the only class years that attended that school that do these reunions on a regular basis. We did a 10 and 30 year reunion before this one. Sorry that you can't attend yours but at least the internet makes not being there easier by being able to see photos of those that were. I hope you can make your 45th or 50th. There is already talk of them planning a 50th one for us.

  5. The value of the car rental is probably worth much more than the cost :)
