Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 15)

We went for our morning walk along the main road that runs by the entrances to the resort hotels. They have a sidewalk on either side, so no worries about vehicles. But you had better have your eyes on the sidewalk when you’re walking!

One of the things I like about Mexico is that they are not a litigious society. While it’s true that you can launch a lawsuit for anything that you like down here, the process is long and costly and the research I’ve done says that even if you win, you will likely not collect…and that any amount awarded will not include “punitive” damages or anything like that. And, you have to pay your own costs whether you win or lose. Negotiation for compensation without lawyers or courts is the preferred option here. I’m not a lawyer, and some of these statements may not be totally true, this is just what I have gathered from various sites on the internet. My point is that the thought of suing someone is not nearly as prevelant here as it is north of the border.

And so it is with the sidewalk. If you trip and fall, you’re on your own. You should have been watching where you’re walking, right?

Ruth was hit by a baseball at a Blue Jays game several years ago. We couldn’t believe the number of people who said “are you going to sue them?”. Nope. How was it anybody’s fault that she got hit by a baseball? She should have been watching the ball!

I’ve never liked lawyers or insurance companies. I prefer to think that one has a certain responsibility for ones own actions and that if something does happen to you it’s not somebody else’s fault…it just happened and you deal with it.

Anyhow, enough about that. We had another great day doing nothing. We're pretty happy here overlooking the golf course with a beach five minutes away. Don't people pay big dollars for that kind of location?! And the weather is perfect. We'll probably stay where we are until we need fresh water or we need to dump...so that should be a few more days yet!

And the food here is great!

  2. Dale and Mary-Lou...Thanks! In the photo above it was porkchops, mashed potatoes with peas and carrots. Not sure what you mean by how do I do it in this site? If you mean how did I cook it with no hookups in the parking area, I used the stovetop. Our unit has both the stove top and the oven which are used everyday and use propane. I am just going to get a stew going now for tonight's supper.

  3. I ha a friend who had a time share in Mexico, he had the same theory on litigious liablities, he said like you in Mexico you are responsible for your actions, of course he also said, the dumb ones get weeded out by attrition. but I agree you shouldn't have to worry about every little thing bringing a lawsuit, that's why the states have so many lawyers. We have developed also a lot of meals that are easy to make with the RV stove and oven. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  4. Your pork chop dinner looked great - it's only 8am here and now I'm thinking about dinner already!!

I agree on the lawsuits too, some people are just too eager to sue without ever taking any responsibility for their own actions.

  6. Sam and Donna...I think people need to take more responsiblities for their actions, instead of trying to make a quick buck on an accident.

I find that I cook exactly the same kind of food in the motorhome as I did in our sticks and bricks home that we used to have. The only thing that changed is that I don't use the microwave unless we are hooked up to electricity which isn't too often, plus I never really used it a lot even in the house.

Rick and Paulette...The porkchops came out great.

I think some people want to try and take the easy way out at someone else's expense.

    Malone...Thank you!

  7. Nice place, looks warm. Tried to shovel the 2.5 feet of snow on my back sidewalk today. Too cold to continue. Will take me a week to warm up now. Yikes.

    Wish I was there!!!!!!!

    Next year for sure.

  9. Hi guys,

Maybe that's why here in Mexico, my full coverage medical policy at age 54 only runs me 90 dollars a month (private hospital, private suite), home insurance for a 100,000 dollar policy for the structure and contents, costs us 180 dollars a year, and our car insurance less than 400 dollars a year for full coverage. U.S insurance companies have to make up for their losses somehow.

I agree, be responsible for yourself and stop blaming others.

  10. Chris...Some of the many reasons to live in Mexico. If insurance and lawyers didn't get things so screwed up maybe it could be like that everywhere.

Hope it has warmed up there for you guys!

  12. I think we tend to actually cook more involved and elaborate meals in our Rv than at home! It seems when we are in the Rv, we are more prone to enjoying our cooking together, and usually do a combo of cooking on the campfire, the grill, the stovetop, or my portable LP oven on the picnic table. Rarely do we fire up the genny to run the microwave.

At home, it seems we are always so busy that making a big meal from scratch takes second fiddle if we are working or running or doing upkeep on the house stuff. Seems like we have less time when we are at home.

  13. Karen and Steve...I have seen your meals when you are RVing, they always look so good. I love your little "easybake oven". We may have to look into one of those, it gets hot in the motorhome in this weather with the oven on. We are so upset with ourselves for not getting a BBQ when we were coming through the States, even just a cheap one. Very hard to find gas BBQ's down here.
