Update on my condition, and weekend away with the boys...

I went away for my annual guys weekend on Thursday afternoon.

Of course the major concern was my medical condition, but we decided that if I'm going to feel like crap, I might as well feel like crap up at the cottage visiting with my long time friends. So first things first, an update on my progress in that regard...

Typically, people with dysautonomia feel worse in the morning, and progress to better by after lunch and best (but still not perfect) in the evening. And that's exactly what I've been experiencing. But the feelings kind of come and go in waves. We're quite confident that the doctor at Kemptville hospital got the diagnosis correct, which I still find quite amazing. While doing some research, I'm also amazed at the number of people that have this condition in varying degrees of severity. There is a facebook group, as well as a reddit group, with thousands of members.

I had one of the guys pick me up so that I wouldn't have to drive myself just in case things deteriorated. Fortunately, things have continued to improve and as I write this Tuesday morning, it's my best morning yet and I feel pretty much normal. The only major problem I was having this weekend was not sleeping well, and excessive urination. Yes, an odd combination of symptoms, but they are two of the common problems with dysautonomia. Of course the excessive urination is partly caused by the two to three liters of water I'm supposed to drink every day! I'm learning that it takes the system a while to get used to that.

Last night was my best sleep in over a week though, and I'm feeling pretty good right now. Fingers crossed it continues to improve. Even if it stays like this, at least I can function normally and even did a 5 km walk on Friday and a 6 km walk on Sunday.

Campfire with the boys.

We had a perfectly clear night with lots of stars!

Best friends for 46 years!

Tomorrow, I'll tell you about Ruth's weekend while I was away!

    1. Thank you, we hope so too. At least Kevin is seeing some improvement, even if it is just a little at a time.

  2. Having to drink all that water could flush potassium out of your body, so might check on that possibility.

    1. The hydration drink that he is drinking contains potassium and I checked to see what foods contain potassium and a lot of those foods are ones that we eat on a regular basis so we are pretty confident that he is getting enough potassium to offset the water and electrolyte drinks but thank you for mentioning that.

    1. Thanks Chris! The improvement is slow but at least it seems to be headed in the right direction. He has good days and not so good days, today isn't as good as yesterday unfortunately.

  4. I'm glad you were still able to enjoy your weekend with your long-time friends. Glad to hear that you seem to be feeling better day by day, and as far as the excessive urination, welcome to my world! The more you drink, the more you pee... ;-)

    1. We are also glad that he was able to enjoy his weekend away with the boys, he just wishes that he could have felt better to have really enjoyed it but it was better than sitting a "home". I am sure the other guys did their best to keep his mind busy and his spirits up.

    1. We are too! He still has good days and bad days but he is slowly improving. We are not sure if the condition will ever go away but hopefully it will get to the point where he can manage to live with it more or less comfortably.

  10. What a quirky ailment to be diagnosed with, especially as you were the perfect picture of health and exercise was a priority. Hopefully you can manage it and here are too many good days ahead! Love your annual outings. We do the same thing with a bunch of gals.
