So, we had an early lunch and then headed off across the border.
Like everything in Canada, it's not a cheap adventure! They have several packages available, and we chose a 5 minute warm up period followed by a 20 minute race. Cost was $67 CAD ($49 USD) each including tax.
Even though we had arrived shortly after they opened at 2:00pm there were already two guys on the track having a race, so we had to wait for them to finish.
They have some pool tables and a bar as well.
So we had a couple of games of pool while we were waiting.
Then we had a five minute briefing session, followed by helmet fitting.
With our brain buckets on.
Five minute warm up session to get the feel for the track.
Ruth took a video of the start of the race...
Me, flying around the corner.
The carts are really fast considering the size of the track. Their maximum speed is about 75 km/h (46 mph) so when you're in such a small vehicle it feels super quick.
Final stats.
Considering it was our first time on the track, and Cameron's first time driving something that fast, I think we did really well.
I had the fastest lap time of the day, but of course there had only been four drivers so far that day.
Lots of fun, and Cameron really enjoyed himself. As did I!
On the way home, Cameron wanted to see a Tesla Cyber truck so we popped into the Tesla dealer.
Sure enough, they had a couple of Cyber trucks available.
Of course a salesman came out. He was a really nice guy though, and asked several times if we wanted to go for a test drive so eventually we caved. I'm actually glad that we did... it was an interesting learning experience for us all.
Cameron enjoyed sitting in the front with Abdul showing us all the toys.
Look ma, no hands!
We have to admit, it's pretty impressive technology. The self driving mode is amazing. The car even has a "summon" mode where it will come and pick you up in a parking lot. He tested it for us, and sure enough the driverless car came and got us. Crazy.
So, a week goes by pretty quickly, and that was our last day with Cameron. We take him to the airport around noon and he will fly back to Nova Scotia. But we look forward to seeing him again at the end of January in Mexico with his family!
