Jajce, Bosnia... more castles and waterfalls

If you like castles and waterfalls as we do, Bosnia is definitely the place to be!

Saturday morning, we drove to the town of Jajce. It's situated in hilly terrain at the confluence of two rivers, with a waterfall and a castle overlooking it all. It's a really pretty area. As we arrived just outside of town, we stopped at Plivsko Lake where there are some walking paths and picnic sites.

We were due for some exercise so we parked up and went for a walk...

These pups came out to greet us!

It's a pretty spot.

And it looks like we're in for a nice day!

There are some small waterfalls.

And a nice boardwalk.

And some man made sections.

These are old watermills.

We did about 6 kms (3.7 Miles) around the lake area, then drove into town to have a look around. We saw another motorhome parked at a campground on the opposite side of the river, but first we wanted to check out a possible free location. It turned out the free location would have been fine for overnight, but I didn't feel comfortable leaving Max there alone while we went exploring.

But the problem was, it's difficult to find suitable free day use parking for a motorhome in town. We went and checked out the campground. It turns out that it was only €10 ($14.35 CAD, $11.60 USD) per night with electric and WiFi, so we made a corporate decision and paid the money. Besides, it's right next door to a big Bingo grocery store, and we needed some supplies.

The other motorhome has Spanish licence plates, so we thought we might get an opportunity to practice our Spanish. Of course they could just as easily be British people who have a motorhome in Spain. Didn't matter, because they drove out later in the day without us getting a chance to say hello, so we never found out.

Out exploring.

We hiked up to the castle. I had read that there wasn't much to see up there except for the view, but we decided to go in when we found out that the off season entry fee was only 2 BAM ($1.50 CAD, $1.20 USD) per person.

Inside the castle walls.

Yikes. Let me out!

It turned out to be a beautiful day. Sunny, no wind, and a high of 17C (64F).

And then it was back down to the town's other attraction... the Pliva Waterfall.

In summer, locals will dive off the top of the falls, once they have collected enough money.

Looking back up at the castle.

We did some grocery shopping on the way back to Max, and then had a quiet evening. Temperature went down to 1C (34F) overnight, so I'm glad we were able to use our electric heater!

Today, we hope to make it all the way to the big city of Sarajevo. It's still a bit of a drive, but we'll see how it goes.

    1. It was a pretty little town, we enjoy visiting places like this that aren't high on the tourist list.

We wonder if benches like this will ever catch on in the US and Canada!

  2. Awesome. Google maps had some of the same castle pictures as I was searching to see the Una river flowed through there but it was the Vrbas river instead. Love the solar bench usb charger. Very clever idea.

    1. We are constantly checking out Google maps, it gives us lots of ideas for seeing interesting places that we might have missed had we just tried to search for information on the internet. Lots of little hidden gems can be found this way.

Kevin thought that solar bench was a great idea. How come we don't see stuff like this back home?!

  3. Well, Kevin, you left us hanging! Or am I the only one who is dying to know, "once they have collected enough money" for what??!? To pay for a funeral? To support their family for the next year if they don't make it?!? ;)

    1. Lol, who knows maybe that IS what they are collecting the money for! I know that there is no way either of us could collect enough money to entice us to jump off that platform to the water below!

I wonder if they got this idea from the cliff divers in Acapulco who have been doing it for years and years?
