Happy to be back in the motorhome!

Woke up to a chilly morning yesterday in Hamilton, Ontario. Breezy, overcast, and drizzly. Calling for highs of about 8C (46F). Nice day to be heading back to the west!

First thing we had to do was return the rental car. before 8:30am We drove out to the Avis location near the airport at 8:00am, dropped it off, and covered the bill. Hassle free. Total was $549 CAD ($425 USD). Not bad for a three week rental.

We put 2,794 kms (1,732 miles) on the rental car. And, we used 179 liters (47.3 gallons) of fuel. I was really happy with our little VW Golf. Lots of power, and yet we managed 36.6 mpg. Not bad.

So, we dropped the car off bright and early, but our flight wasn't leaving until 3:20pm.

Coincidentally, the people who ran Cabri Park this past summer were in the area and they knew we were as well. And we had been in touch. They picked us up at the car rental place and we went to Tim Horton's for coffee. Fun to rehash how their summer went at the park.

Then, they drove us back to Ruth's sister's place.

Kevin, Ruth, Steve, and Jo.

Said goodbye to them, but we still had a few hours to waste. Ruth's sister Lesley had the day off work, so she drove us down to the Hamilton waterfront where we took their dog Ziva for a 5 km (3 mile) walk.

Hamilton waterfront.

Not the nicest beach, but there is a wide, paved waterfront path that runs for miles.

It was not very warm!

Across Lake Ontario, you can zoom in on the Toronto skyline.

Ruth, her sister Lesley, and Lesley's dog Ziva.

Then, we took Lesley for lunch at a nearby mall. With full stomachs, we went to Hamilton airport where she dropped us off for our flight to Abbotsford, British Columbia.

There's our plane... almost ready to depart.

Swoop is Canada's new discount airline. It's owned by Westjet, but operates as an entirely different company. One of their routes is (essentially) Toronto to Vancouver, but to reduce costs they are using Hamilton airport and Abbotsford airport.

Very nice flight. A little tight on the legroom (as my knees touched the seat in front of me), but that's to be expected on a discount airline. For 5 hours, we simply put up with it. Especially for the price we paid!

Soon enough, we were in the air.

Takeoff from Hamilton.

We had fairly clear skies over the Rocky Mountains.

Descending into Abbotsford.
Beautiful!

And, when we landed there were clear skies and the temperature was 20C (68F). Perfect!

Our friends Bernd and Angelika were there to pick us up. Brought us back to their place where Sherman was waiting for us. And, they had a meal ready for us as well. They sure are looking after us well! Thank you!

We're going to hang out here for a couple more days. Still have people in the area we want to visit with. Planning on heading to Belligham, Washington area on Saturday, and then we will begin our five and a half week trip to Mission, Texas and the Mexico border.

We always enjoy going back to Ottawa, and it was a good trip. But, we're looking forward to getting back to our regular RV lifestyle!
