A pretty successful weekend

Well, our last busy weekend of the season is over. Sure, there will be a few people around the park for the next couple of weekends, but we won't be sold out again this year like we were last weekend!

Plus, harvest is starting a little early this year because of the dry June and July. So most of our local clientele are out working the fields for the next month or so.

It was a pretty successful weekend though. There had been some showers forecast for Friday and Saturday, but they held off for the most part on Friday and then Saturday turned out to be a little better than they were originally calling for.

And then Sunday was beautiful!

I had posted some pics last week of how quiet the park was at the time and reader Doug had asked to do some comparison shots of the busy Sunday...

I couldn't take them from exactly the same spot because there were a lot of cars around!

And, every night at some point between 1am and 2am I went for a walk around the park to make sure nobody was being too stupid. Doing that for one or two nights isn't too bad, but doing it for three nights in a row is pretty hard on the system! Fortunately, there were only a few late night parties going on, and nothing was too out of hand.

And of course we have a fire ban on, which isn't so good for the campers, but it sure makes our job a little easier! Some people have propane firepits, but it seems there isn't the attraction to stay up late like when you're having a wood campfire.

But of course it's hard to get 300 to 400 people in one spot without there being a couple of issues. The worst part was a couple of dog owners who couldn't wrap their heads around a few simple rules. We had to talk to a few people, and then there were those who couldn't have the courtesy to clean up after their dogs when they vacated the site. I guess it's a problem that simply can't be fixed. Glad it's the minority of dog owners that are like that!

Not many extra parking spots.

The boat ramp was busy all day.

And so overall, it was one of our better August long weekends.

Oh, and last week Ruth found a $10 bill lying on the road. Can you guess what she spent her newfound wealth on?

That's right, a bottle of wine. We celebrated the end of the long weekend last night!

Ruth, happy with her free $10 bill!

Our workcampers Barry and Jeannie finished up their stint here and left this morning to head back to Ontario.

Barry and Jeannie, with Serenity, Sherman's younger sister! They're headed back to Ontario this morning.

This is a kind of a neat invention for some RVs and pickup trucks...

And in Canada, the popular Instant Pot is on sale...

    1. Yes, you are totally right the majority of dog owns are responsible, thank goodness!

The bottle of wine was most enjoyable on Monday evening when everything had quietened down and we could finally relax for a little bit. :-)

  3. So that is what a $10 loonie bill looks like. It looks like play money. We have been to Australia and all over Europe, but must confess we never have visited Canada. Please forgive us!

    1. Dee only our $1 coin is called a loonie, NEVER paper money. And the reason the $1 coin is called a "loonie" is because it has a picture of a loon on it.

Yes, our money does look like play money but it sure is pretty to look at and easy to find the bill you are looking for by just having to look at the colour.

Sounds like it is about time you come up and visit our beautiful country!

    1. Actually it pays to stop and pick up what looks like garbage! I was actually driving the gator and anytime I see garbage along my way I take the time to stop and pick it up and that is what happened here. If others did that, then someone else would have been the lucky one. ;-)

    1. Anything is quiet after that long weekend but in actual fact it is fairly busy and probably will be for another couple of weeks but at least the worst is over!

  9. You stated in a previous post regarding safety issues in Mexico and I quote "We have never had a problem with anything unsafe". When two men robbed you guys during a hike and if my memory is correct I believe a knife was held on Ruth. Are you really saying you felt perfectly safe during that encounter. While I agree a robbery can happen anywhere I only take exception to your claim of having no safety issues in Mexico during your travels there. I have enjoyed your post since the beginning and wish you always happy, fun and safe travels. Tanks Leslie

    1. And in the proper context, I still agree with that claim. If you read the sentence where I said that, I was specifically referring to RV'ing in Mexico. You're right that I guess I should have included a disclaimer related to that specific incident that had nothing to do with traveling by RV.

  10. Nothing like a free bottle of wine at the end of a busy weekend. Unfortunately it is those dog owners that cause dog bans for any and all dog owners at many places.

    1. That bottle of wine went down real nice at the end of a busy weekend! :-)

You are correct, it is the few irresponsible dog owners that ruin it for the many responsible dog owners, unfortunately you can't fix stupid!
