Parched

Last Sunday, the park was packed. It was a beautiful hot sunny day, with hardly any wind... perfect weather for getting the boat out on the lake... and that's exactly what people did. It was a zoo... hardly any parking spots and you almost couldn't make your way through the number of trucks and boat trailers that were parked out front.

Even at 9:00pm Sunday night when the concession usually closes, there was still a lineup of people trying to buy ice cream!

But by Monday, things had quieted right down. And yesterday was dead, despite the beautiful weather!

It sure is strange though that the campground can be that quiet during the week when it's so busy on the weekends. But, we don't mind that.

It was so quiet that there were only two campers in the park on Wednesday, and nobody was scheduled to show up.

So I took advantage of the opportunity to go into Swift Current and do grocery shopping with Ruth. I've only left the park once since June 28th, and even then it was just for a short drive into Cabri. So, while the park is a really nice place to spend a couple of weeks, you do start to want to see some other scenery eventually!

With so little rain, the crops are going to be in for an early harvest.

In fact, some fields have already been combined!

The city of Regina is about 300 kms (180 miles) east of here and we heard on the radio yesterday that they have only had .2 mm (less than 1/10 inch) of rain this month, and our nearby city of Swift Current hasn't had a whole lot more. In fact, both cities are on track for the driest July on record.

Here's a news article that came out this morning...

And it's also been warm... over 30C (86F) pretty much every day this month.

And because of the dryness, we also have a fire ban on now. But, that doesn't seem to stop people from coming out and it's more important for them to be able to come out and enjoy the lake. This weekend is almost sold out, and of course the following weekend (August log weekend up here in Canada) is now sold out.

Anyhow, that's all for now!

    1. Yep, there are some pretty ritzy campgrounds in North America but they also come with a hefty price tag. There are also some very basic ones, and these are more our style if we aren't boondocking (wild camping).

  2. So far, Ottawa has had 128.4 mm of rain in July compared to average of 72.7 mm.

    1. Yep, Ottawa has had a ton of rain this year, sounds like it is a little nicer right now though at least for a couple of days.

    1. Yeah, a day in Swift Current shopping isn't what you would call a day off but at least it is different scenery and a bit of a change! :-)

  5. At least the lake is full, unlike last year. So I guess no fire ban out on the lake? ;c)

    1. Yes, everyone is loving the fact that there is lots of water for boating! :-) Yep, unless you want to burn a hole through the bottom of your boat. ;-)

  6. You guys met Linda and Peter, didn´t you? They were at Hacienda Contreras one year. He does or did drive those big combines in Saskatchewan during the summer months. Great couple. She made the pierogis.

  7. Geez, it's either pouring cats and dogs and flooding, or it's bone dry and parched with high fire danger. Shouldn't there be a happy medium in there, somewhere? :-)

Love, love, love that header photo!

    1. In a perfect world there would be a happy medium but unfortunately the world isn't perfect!

I love that photo too. :-) It is giving us hitch itch!
