What a day!

You'd think my "what a day!" title would be related to how much work we did at the campground or something. But no, it's because we went shopping yesterday! Let me tell you, I'd rather stay at the campground and work.

Okay, but first things first. I'm sure you all want to know who won $50 dollars in our contest...

I had said that I hoped it was one of our regular readers...and it was!!!

Congratulations to John Burns! John and Diane are the friends we stayed with a month ago in North Bay when we drove from Ottawa to Saskatchewan. They're also long time regular readers of Travel with Kevin and Ruth!

The raffle software did a totally random selection of the over 700 entries we received, and John's name came up!

Congratulations John!!!

Thanks to DriveNow Australia for sponsoring our contest!

So, yesterday we went into the big city of Swift Current (also known as "Speedy Creek"!!) to do our weekly grocery shopping. But I had some things to pick up for the campground as well, so between our grocery stops and supplies stops, we had to visit eight different stores! It's a 45 minute drive each way, so the whole excursion took five hours. And I still didn't get everything, but we're pretty well stocked up on repair and maintenance supplies and things that we need.

I'm looking into getting some sort of campground paging system. It's a pretty big campground for just three people to look after, and we so don't have someone sitting in the office all the time. Last year they had four of those cheap walkie talkie style radios and they had one duct taped to the side of the office window. People would have to figure out that they had to push a call button on the radio to get someone to come. Kind of a mickey mouse system, and I want something easier and more professional. Two of those four radios have disappeared, and the one of the other two isn't working properly. So they need to spend $150 on radios if we go back to that system, or we could spend about $500 to get a proper paging system.

Something like this...

The problem is that the pagers don't communicate between themselves. So we probably need radios as well as this, and it would be a pain carrying around both a radio and a pager. Hmm. Gonna have to think about this.

Our water pump is still running. Since I moved the intake to deeper water it's been going 36 hours straight now without shutting down. So I think I have that part of it figured out. Liked some of your ideas from yesterday's comments though. I'll talk to people about putting a holding tank in and whether or not they've ever thought of that idea.

Summer is here! Calling for 28C (82F) today, and 30C (86F) tomorrow. It's BBQ weather...

Grilled sweet potato and pork kebabs!

Add a salad and a glass of milk...yummy and nutritious!

  1. The grilled kabobs & tatas look delish! What kind of milk do you drink? Just wondering. I drank regular milk all my life until about a year ago, started having problems. Switched to Lactaid (in the purple container) and haven't had any problems since. Congrats to winner, John!

    1. Right now we are just drinking regular 2% milk but I am thinking that I may need to change to a lactose free one now that we are drinking more milk. In Mexico I bought one that was easy on the digestive system but we only had it in our tea/coffee and our cereal unless I did any baking that required milk.

Up here in Canada, lactose free milk is expensive so we have been having regular but now because we have a glass at dinner time each night I think I am having too much milk for my system. I am going to make a couple of changes and see what happens.

  3. Shopping. *shudder*
You survived it though. Never been one of my favourite pastimes. You're getting the heat wave before us, but apparently we'll get it next week some time.

    1. He had also gone into Cabri early in the morning, because we figured we had too much to get and not enough room in the car. Also the park board wants us to support the stores in Cabri as much as possible. That made it quite a long day for him, and neither one of us cares for shopping very much, even when it isn't with own money.

  5. Great loping kebabs and sweet potatoes - I've found that I LOVE sweet potatoes and can totally enjoy them without anything added to them - no butter, sour cream, bacon bits, etc. that I love on regular baked potatoes.
Lots of interesting new news about gluten free diets. Have you seen it? Points to the tremendous placebo effect that's possible for so many of us. And, there's nothing wrong with enjoying a placebo effect!!!

    1. Yes, there is lots of news out there about gluten free and it seems that every doctor has their own opinion about it and so does the whole medical profession. We have found that you can't go by just one study, you have to look at lots of them and then form you own opinion and do what makes you feel the best. I know that gluten is my issue and I am staying away from it!

  8. Great looking dinner, similar to what I have planned for tonight, chicken kabobs and sweet potatoes.
We have been drinking "Silk" Almond milk not too bad either, gluten, dairy and soya free free as well.

    1. We love kabobs and they are so easy to make!

I haven't tried Almond milk yet, I am going to do a couple things different before I try buying lactose free milk or almond milk, I know I wouldn't be having Soy milk though.
