January Expenses

We've been busy, so I never got to this at the beginning of the month. But we all decided yesterday was a day of rest, so we just hung around here for the day, although Lindsey and family did walk into El Arco.

Anyhow, January was a fairly expensive month, but we expected it to be. We spent $4,525 CAD, ($3,314 USD).

It didn't feel like it though, because a chunk of that was for Lindsey and family's flight tickets which we actually paid for a few months ago.

The Canadian dollar is doing terrible versus most world currencies. It's doing slightly better versus the $USD, but only because the $USD is also doing poorly. And the Mexican peso is doing well. So everything is more expensive in Mexico for us right now.

Anyhow, here's how it all broke down... (everything in $CAD)

Fuel: We drove 1,512 kms (945 miles) last month on our trip with Igor through the Mexican states of Jalisco, Michoacan, and Guerrero. Fuel is expensive in Mexico, and Igor uses a lot of it. So we spent $754 on fuel.

Toll Roads: All of that driving was done on the free roads.

Propane: We did not need to buy any propane in January.

Groceries: Total of $480 CAD.

Meals out: Considering we spent most of the month either on the road, or in Mexico City, we still only spent $229 eating out. Not bad!

Alcohol: Not bad, at $99. Only having a few drinks on weekends.

Miscellaneous: Total of $1,624, but $1,142 of that was for Lindsey and family to get down here. We'll have the same expense this month to get them back. Otherwise, the balance of $482 consisted of Starlink, cellular, and household internet access, laundry, some clothing, haircuts, etc.

Entertainment: A whole $7.80 when we hiked up to La Pena!

Overnight: A total of $1,082 included our rent, a few overnight campsites, and a hotel in Mexico City.

Motorhome: $53.50, which is the monthly average of our insurance.

Travel: $196 which was the bus for us to get to Mexico City, and the return for all six of us.

So, a total of $$4,525 CAD, ($3,314 USD), which is about what we expected.

February will be slightly higher. We are paying for Lindsey and family to get back to Canada, and we are taking off for 15 days in Ecuador!
