Back in the countryside

We enjoyed our four days in Cordoba, and our three days in Seville before that, but after all of that city time we were overdue for some countryside!

Thursday, Friday, and Sunday are all national public holidays here in Spain. The main road leading north from Cordoba was pretty busy, so we were happy to get onto a quiet side road.

We got just past the village of Villaharta when we came across a recreation area with a small parking lot and several picnic table shelters.

Yep, this will do!

Almost a perfect place. A little close to the road, but it's very quiet with maybe only three vehicles per hour going by.

And, a few hiking trails in the area.

There had been a fire on this hill a couple of years ago.

At the top of the hill was this.

And old survey marker of some kind.

Looking down on the village of Villharta.

You can clearly see where the fire was.

Lots of these big white flowers.

It's called a gum rockrose.

And these are Spanish lavender.

Just after we went to bed, at about 11:30pm a VW campervan pulled in right beside us. They weren't very quiet about it either. But really, what are you doing out driving at that hour? We don't get it.

Oh well. When we got up around 7:00am, we didn't feel the need to be quiet about it!

  1. Looks like a good spot! Well, with the exception of the late arrival right next to you. Lovely flowers. Thanks. Your posts are always interesting to see!

I loved the flowers too, I think it is the first time that I have seen lavender in bloom other than in pictures and the gum rockrose flowers looked like they were made out of crepe paper.
