We walked into Santander with Linda and Steven yesterday. It's a bigger city than I thought it was, with a population of about 180,000.
Interesting that Santander has no medieval central area, despite having a history dating back to the 12th century. That's because there was a massive fire in 1941 that totally destroyed the center of the city.
It has a fairly busy port area though. Cruise ships stop here, and there is regular ferry service to England.

The Le Bellot is a pricey little luxury cruise ship that does specialty itineraries. For example, they do a 15 day trip from Iceland to Toronto in August. Cost is about $1,000 USD per day per person! Oh well, if you've got it, you might as well spend it!

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch, and found a nice little hole in the wall spot that had great reviews that spoke of home cooking and fair prices. Sounded like our kind of place. Only problem was it was just after 12:00pm, and they didn't start serving until 1:00pm. It turns out that's the norm around here... lunch starts around 1:00pm, and dinner after 7:00pm.
We ended up back at the motorhomes for lunch, with a different plan for today so that our timing is better. We want to go back to the same place though.
Santander is a very hilly town, and in fact there is a tunnel right downtown so that you don't have to climb over the top if you don't want to.

Looks like we've got no sunshine for a second day in a row. But the temperature is a pleasant 17C (63F)... fine for wandering around town. We'll take this over the 34C (93F) that Seville is supposed to get today in the southern part of the country.
