Today we return the car rental and head for the airport.

We thought that we were done with work for this year, but apparently not. We spent the morning working on Ruth's father's house. I cut the grass and did the vacuuming while Ruth was cleaning out the fridge and freezer and cupboards of food that either had gone bad, or would go bad over the next few months. We brought a bunch of stuff back to our daughter Lindsey's house for them to be able to use.

Then, it was back to my mother's for lunch and some odd jobs for her.

Only visiting for a week is a fairly short time, and it went by quickly. But, we got done what we wanted to. Besides, I didn't want to stay so long that we feel like we're just hanging around.

Kevin and his mom.

Then, we drove back to our daughter Lindsey's house in Osgoode, just south of the city.

We put about 900 kms (560 miles) on the rental car in one week. It doesn't take long to add up. Gas is fairly expensive here in Ottawa, but you can get it for $1.31 CAD per liter ($3.90 USD per gallon) if you shop around. Most stations are higher.

Granddaughter Sadie was at a birthday party on the weekend, and came back with some bubble blowing stuff. Chester the dog likes to try to catch the bubbles. It's so funny. Here's Ruth, blowing some bubbles for Chester...

In the evening, after the kids had gone to bed, we played a game of Catan. It's a little complicated at first but it's a good strategy game.

Kevin, Justin, and Lindsey.

So, today we return the car rental and head for the airport. Plane leaves at 3:30pm, and with a two hour gain in the time change we'll be back in Sherman by 6:30pm, after a quick connection in Winnipeg.

Next blog post coming to you from Saskatoon, where we will begin our trip north!

  3. Cleaning out all the attic stuff at my Mom and Dad's home took the longest time when Dad decided to sell the house, because we would find things from when we were little kids like our old Easter baskets, baptismal dresses, and various things we made in elementary school and we would stop to look at them and recall memories. Mom was a hoarder of our childhood (five of us), so you can imagine how much was in that attic.

    1. It will take a long time at my Dad's as well. We will get started on some of that this fall, not the major stuff just the clutter that is mostly garbage. He was a great collector of stuff too, like keeping Christmas, birthday and other types of cards from years and years ago. If he is up to it, I would also love to go through some of his slides and photos and get rid of ones that don't have family or close friends in it and then have them digitized for him in an electronic frame and then also be able to give a copy of them to my brother and my sister as well as myself. I sort of look forward to seeing some of the things, like you it will bring back some good memories.

    1. He was funny to watch! He doesn't get too excited most times but those bubbles sure had him jumping and prancing around. :-)
