Just stuff

Getting ready for the big long weekend here at the park. We're officially sold out, and the weather forecast looks perfect. Even all of the tenting spots are reserved!

August long weekend is always sold out here. The weather is usually good, and the water level is usually at it's highest. And, it's kind of the last hurrah for a lot of the locals who use the park because harvest usually starts shortly after August long weekend.

Speaking of which, they've had an unusual amount of rain in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains west of here over the last 10 days and it's all been coming this way. They had forecast the water level to be at it's peak, but now they've changed that. I think the water is up a foot over the past week, and it's still heading higher!

So, that's good news for the boaters.

Hmm. What else is going on?

Oh, I ordered a new battery for the iPhone. Our son says that he never changed the battery, so it's definitely the original one. And so I looked it up and apparently Apple didn't design these things for easy maintenance. They actually want you to send it in and pay $75 USD to get the battery changed! Um, I don't think so.

So I ordered a battery from eBay for $8.88 CAD ($6.90 USD) and I watched a youtube video about how to change it. I think I'm up to the task!

Ruth is off to town today to do groceries and take back a load of recycling. The refundable cans and bottles are starting to pile up, so I took out the back seat and rear parcel shelf so that she could take a big load in. Well, as big a load as will fit in the little blue car! And of course after this long weekend there will be even more!

Have a great day all!

In keeping with our current theme of "weird things you can buy on Amazon"...

1 lb replica of human fat

And if that's not enough, you can even buy a 5 lb version!

  1. I saw this yellow replica of a huge amount of human fat at a booth where they sell pills for loosing weight. The presenter explained that this is the amount of fat she lost while using these pills. It looked sickening.

  2. I paid $35 here in Winnipeg to get my 4s battery changed. $75 is ridiculous

    1. Well $35 is better than $75 but someone is still making some good chunk change!

  3. Crikey! Seventy-five bucks for an eight dollar battery? I suppose there are enough suckers out there to make that work.

    1. Pretty sure Apple knows that people who buy Apple products typically have a lot of disposable income.

  4. I'm intrigued by the replica human fat :-) Don't think I'll be buying it, but I'll be checking it out for laughs.

    1. No way Kevin would EVER pay that amount of money to buy and change a battery in a cell phone, it's totally ridiculous, I find it hard to believe that other people pay it.

  7. Not an Apple or a Mac fan. Good for them if they like it.

    1. We aren't Apple fans either. The only reason we have this phone is that our son handed it down to us because he got a new one.

    1. Thanks George. Kevin is pretty confident that he won't have a problem with it.

  9. You can get so much info on you tube. After paying $400 to have the window on our pickup fixed and then it quit working again, Mike went to you tube and fixed it better than the Ford garage.

    1. Mike must have been frustrated with himself for not going to Youtube first to try and fix it. Glad that he got it fixed. Did you try to get a refund from the Ford garage when you found that they didn't fix it right to begin with?
