The amazing Wulingyuan Scenic Area

Once again the weather wasn't looking great, so we didn't get an early start. But by 10:00am we had been down to the lobby where our hostess arranged our tickets to the park and she drove us over to the East gate park entrance for 11:00am.

We ended up buying a four day pass that includes all transportation inside the park including the cable cars.

The cost was 409 yuan ($85 CAD, $60 USD) each for the four day pass.

From there we took a 20 minute shuttle bus ride to the famous Bailong Elevator. The elevator opened in 2002 to transport people up to the upper area. It's the equivalent of a 100 story building, however it doesn't look like that at first glance because only 55 stories are visible from the outside. The first 45 are embedded in the rock below.

There are also wild monkeys. 

But there are many signs that say "Don't mess with wild monkeys!"

Like yesterday, the scenery is amazing and it's easy to take too many photos!

This is the area that inspired the scenery for the movie "Avatar".

It's a little difficult to see, but this is a natural bridge.

The red is another place where they place prayer ribbons on the opposite side of the natural bridge.

We took a cable car down to another area and got these views from the open window of the cable car..

On the way back down the last cable car, we had a car by ourselves so I was able to stand and get some great shots out the window.

We decided to walk the 2.5 kms from the East Gate back to the guest house.

The town of Wulingyuan itself is actually quite pretty.

Great first day. And we're going to go out and do it again today, however we are going to the lower area scenic river where most of the viewing is looking up instead of down!
