We've been busy!

Hence why the three day hiatus from writing blog posts!

Tuesday and Wednesday were Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, so we had a lot of work to do with our facebook group telling them about all the deals. And in between the deals, I was busy trying to install Igor's new furnace!

And like everything else, it wasn't going as smoothly as planned. I mean, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy job, but I figured maybe a full days work in total. And really, since I really haven't put a full 8 hours into the job yet, it's actually going okay.

But, it did take longer than I though it would to remove the old furnace.

Our new furnace and installation kit.
It's much smaller than I expected.

The old furnace cover.

It's been in there for 31 years!

I had to remove the shelf for access from the top.
The old furnace is on the left, and the water heater on the right.

It was easy to disconnect the propane and the wiring from the old furnace. There were also a couple of screws to take out, and then it looked like the whole thing should just slide right out the front.

But it wouldn't budge.

I thought maybe I was missing a screw somewhere. I ended up taking off the outside vent thinking maybe there was something there holding it in place, but nothing. Then, I went online to find out if anybody else has removed the furnace from their B190, and sure enough I found a couple of reports.

And the furnace should just slide out.

Since the old furnace wouldn't have any value to anybody, I cut open the sheet metal on the top. What I found was that the exhaust pipe was corroded, and the corrosion had pretty much welded the two pipes together where one slides into the other.

I finally got the pipe broken apart, and then the whole unit slid out as expected.

Man, the floor underneath was nasty, with 31 years worth of dirt and grime. And, I found out that the water pump was leaking. It had been replaced at one point, and like everything else they had done, they didn't do it well. Fortunately it was an easy fix.

Lots of room for the new furnace.

But figuring out the exact location it should go was not that easy. I would have to drill holes in the floor to run the air intake and exhaust, and there are a lot of possible obstacles underneath. And of course measure twice, cut once. In fact, I'm sure I measured a dozen times!

I had to cut out an opening that would fit the footprint of the new furnace.
You can see how much smaller the actual furnace is compared to the old one.

And then install the base plate and drill the mounting holes and the exhaust and intake holes, and fuel line hole. My cheap $39 Walmart drill is proving to be a workhorse!

And that's as far as I got.

We received an offer to do a house sit for the weekend, so despite the fact that there are no refunds here at the campground, we are taking off a day early. Also, they have a much better selection of tools in the garage at the house sit, and I am welcome to use whatever we need, so that should help finish the installation. It has been fairly cool here the last couple of days with highs between 10C-14C (50F-58F), but it is supposed to warm up to 17C (64F) on Friday.
