Great news!

I opened my email this morning to find my Australia visitor visa approved!

The whole situation sucked though. It never should have been an issue to begin with. But, what's done is done, so there's nothing to do but look at the bright side. And the bright side is that we are now going to be seeing Singapore and Malaysia as well. It feels like we're getting a whole new trip out of the deal... which essentially we are, however it has cost us quite a lot more money as well.

I had read on various travel forums (tripadvisor, flyertalk) about this same thing happening to quite a few other people. And many of them also had received their visa approval right at the last minute. And mine did too... our original flight would have been leaving this afternoon.

But, then there was the issue of Ruth's health. Which although it is improving (this is the first time in 6 days she has woken up without a headache!) it still would have been an uncomfortable trip for her. The cancellation insurance should cover it, but they sent us a form that has to be filled out by the doctor and so we have to stop back in there today on our way to Calgary.

Anyhow all in all it's a great start to the day and we can now follow through with planning the rest of the trip with confidence!

    1. Yep, no more worrying about it, now we can plan our trip from Malaysia to Australia. It will be a few weeks late but at least we will still get there. :-)

    1. Definitely good news. Good thing it is a wet rainy day here in Calgary so that we can get things sorted for our onwards journey as well as getting all the paperwork together for the insurance company to get reimbursed for our canceled flights.

  3. Sometimes the detours end up being the best part of the trip!

  4. Good luck with the travel insurance! We had a recent claim that took 4 months to get reimbursed. Just be persistent (as I know you will).

    1. Nothing with insurance claims is fast, so we aren't expecting it quickly! We will get all the information together today and I think we have everything covered so that they don't try to give us a hard time about it, like we expect them too because insurance companies hate to pay out money if they don't have too. ;-) Kevin is very persistent, so he will definitely stay on top of it.

It won't be long to wait, we will just be a couple of weeks late that is all but better late than never. :-)

    1. Yep, that is what we think too! This is why we gave ourselves a bit of a buffer before leaving on our new flight on Monday, I should be good to go by then.
