Next stop, Cancun!

Writing this Sunday evening from our hotel at Ottawa airport.

The hotel was actually paid for by our house sitting hosts. They had asked if we were willing to stay past our original flight date of November 1st, and we couldn't get a rescheduled flight until November 11th. But their returning flight arrived on the 10th (today).

So they offered to pay the difference in our flight costs, as well as our hotel room as part of the deal.

This afternoon, we drove their car to the airport, checked into our hotel and dropped our bags off, then picked them up at the airport, gave them their car, and we walked back to the hotel.

View of the airport from our hotel room.

Just a basic room at the Hilton Garden Inn.
You don't get much for $180 CAD ($130 USD) per night!

The facilities.

Ottawa airport is quite small by international standards, and there aren't many restaurant choices, especially if you don't have a car. We decided to go to the restaurant here at the hotel. Keeping my expectations low, I was surprised ti find that the reviews were actually quite good.

We each had the grilled salmon.

Dinner is served!

And no, we weren't the only one's there. The seats behind Ruth were empty, but there were quite a few people in the opposite direction.

We didn't have any drinks... just water. The bill came to $52 CAD, but with tax and tip the total was $67.70 CAD ($48.65 USD). The girl ended up with a decent tip because we got rid of the $CAD change we had because we won't be back here for a while!

Early to bed this evening, since we have to get up at silly o'clock for our 6:00am flight.

Next stop, Cancun!

  1. I agree that that hotel didn't look quite worth the money, but that's often the way these days. I haven't stayed at a Hilton in so long I would have thought it would be nicer. Hope you had a safe passage to Mexico, and I look forward to reading about your travels and adventures there!

    1. Yep, we were expecting it to be a little nicer too, not that was bad but it was definitely starting to look a tad old and worn. They are working on renovations so I guess they are updating the rooms but the floor we were on hasn't been done yet.

Our flight was uneventful so that was good and we are now enjoying the warmth and sunshine and some good authentic Mexican food.
