Family and friends

Two weeks seems to go by pretty quickly, so we're trying to make the most of it by spending as much time as possible with family and friends. After all, we didn't come here to enjoy the cold and snow, although I have to say that it's not bothering me as much as I thought it would.

It's almost a refreshing change, especially knowing that we don't have to put up with six months of it!

Temperatures hovered around freezing yesterday morning, but with some big snowflakes coming down.

First day of spring?

The snow had been melting.

We borrowed Ruth's nephew's van from next door, and did the drive to take our son down to where he lives in Ottawa. It's about 45 minutes one way, so we try and organize a few things to do so that we don't have to do it too many times during our time here. Gas might be cheaper than it was, but it's certainly not free. It's currently $1.00 CAD per litre here in Ottawa. That's about the equivalent of $3.00 USD per gallon. That's pretty cheap for our American friends, but only due to the current strength of the US dollar.

We dropped Ruth off to visit with my Mom for the night. Alex and I went to his place, which just happens to be a two minute stumble from the pool hall bar that we were meeting some of my old friends at.

We had a great night visiting with my best friends. This is a group of guys that have all known each other since we were 16 years old, and we get together as a group only once or twice a year. We'll see a few of them individually over the next week and a half and that way Ruth will come along and we'll also see some of their wives and families.

Fun with friends!

This morning, Ruth is taking the bus from my Mom's to meet us at Alex's place, and then we're driving to my younger sister Alison's place in Orleans to visit with her and my nephew Marshal.

Here's a fantastic "today only" discounted deal on Amazon.com for those of you musically inclined. You can even use it with headphones so that you don't bother anyone nearby...

  1. The bigger the circle of friends and family, the tougher it is to get to see them all. Keep it between the ditches. No really.

    1. We are really going to have a challenge especially because most of them are in Ottawa which is 45 minutes or so away and we don't want to keep driving down there so this will take some very careful planning.

    1. It's not sounding like the weather will improve much while we are hear visiting but that's ok, we can deal with it.

  3. The warmth of family and friends more than makes up for the weather (at least for a little while lol).

    1. We can deal with this for a short time, sure won't want to deal with it for the whole winter though, especially this past one.

Yep, they are trouble all right!

  5. Warm camraderie helps---but a month of cold and snow is a lot more palatable when your walls are thicker than two inches :)

  6. Gas here on Vancouver Island is $1.13 right now - quite low for us as we usually have some of the most expensive in the country.

    1. You are right that is still cheap compared to where it was a year ago and I am sure you will take anything that is cheaper than what it was. Still we are more expensive here in Canada than in the U.S. but definitely a lot cheaper than Europe.

  7. Gas over here on Vancouver mainland is $1.20 so you are getting it cheap :)

    1. Wow, I am surprised that it is cheaper on Vancouver Island than it is in Vancouver itself.

    1. We are having a wonderful time visiting with family and friends. A little dose of winter is fine but certainly don't want a big dose of it!

    1. You are very right Chris!

Before Cabri we will get another blast of warm weather before heading north for the summer so it will be like a little mini vacation. :-)
