Why Namibia?

There are literally thousands of contests we could enter. After the Australia contest fiasco last year, we've been a little gun shy to enter ANY of them. But when I saw this giveaway with the prize being a trip to a very different destination, I felt we couldn't pass it up. I bet you don't know very much about the country of Namibia. We didn't either.

We knew it was in Africa, but I'm not sure that we could have pointed it out on a map. It's not a country you hear an awfully lot about, and when most people think of visiting Africa, they think of Kenya, or Tanzania. The Namibia Tourism Board is trying to change that.

Namibia is highlighted in pink.

Our regular readers know that we like to visit different places. Off the beaten path. Last year when we went to Europe for instance, when we decided on hiking in Slovakia instead of going to Paris or Rome.

A few facts about Namibia...

First of all, I'll bet you didn't know that English is the official language. A lot of German is also spoken because Namibia was an early German colony back in the late 1800's.

Namibia has a stable, multi party democratic government, and a population of only 2.1 million people.

Namibia has the worlds highest population of cheetahs, numbering around 3,000. The cheetah is the world's fastest land animal and can run at speed over 60 mph!

You can also go camping in Namibia! There are several places that rent 4x4 vehicles set up for camping and this is something that we would do in a heartbeat.

How is this for camping??!!
Hmm. Can't a lion jump up that high...?

Wouldn't you love to read about our trip to Namibia? The contest we entered is supposed to be only for a week, but if we went that far we would make arrangements to stay for a month or so! We would LOVE to report back to you about such a fascinating country!

Our facebook fans can help us get there. We're currently in 5th spot, and we need a top five to get into the finals. Thanks for helping out everyone!

Here's how to do the link. Accept the application. Accept the fact that they get access to your friend list, etc. Standard facebook procedure to limit illegal voting. Then, find the picture titled "Drab Landscape". There are five yellow stars beside the picture. Click on the star to the far RIGHT to award us with five points...daily for the next 8 days!

If your points don't register, please try again in a couple of hours. You're allowed one vote every 24 hours...thanks everyone!

  1. Voting and cheering you on from the sidelines. I'd love to see you go on this trip! Grace (in Tucson)

    1. Thank you Grace, we would love to go on this trip and blog to all our readers about it.

  2. More points from MP! The elephants in your photo reminded me of my first, and only, experience actually walking alongside elephants in India. I'd seen lots of elephants in zoos and circuses - but the experience of walking with them is something very different. Even in your pic, just imagine that you're there out in the open walking along next to giants.........

    1. We would love to see wild elephants up that close, it would be so cool.

  3. Good afternoon!! That elephant was a BIG surprise!!
