We are off to Mexico!

Well, the Blue Jays lost last night, but we get another chance at it again this evening. At this point, part of me wants the Yankees to win again tonight to make it a nail biter do or die back in Toronto for game 5. It would be nice for them to win at home!

Writing this from the premium lounge at Toronto airport.

We were up at 3:00am (silly o'clock!) and had ordered an Uber that we had reserved in advance to pick us up at the house at 3:30am. The guy arrived a couple of minutes early, and we did the twenty minute drive to Ottawa airport. Of course there was zero traffic at that hour.

We were booked on a codeshare flight through AeroMexico. This means that we have to fly WestJet from Ottawa to Toronto, then AeroMexico from Toronto to Mexico City. But it's all booked on the same ticket.

This is one of the very rare times that we are flying with actual luggage over and above our normal carry on. We needed to bring down four shock absorbers for Igor, as well as a bunch of Ruth's gluten free food, maple syrup, and other miscellaneous items.

The problem was, the system would not allow me to add luggage to the booking. So I had called both WestJet and AeroMexico and each told me I had to call the other. Finally, I got someone who told me there was no way to add luggage until we arrived at the airport. But nobody could tell me what it would cost. The app said that it would be $46 CAD, but it wouldn't let me add them. It also said it would be more at the airport if I didn't do it through the app! The guy at AeroMexico said it should be $35, but he didn't specify and it may have been $USD.

So we get to the check-in desk, and the girl charged us $46 CAD for one bag, and $51 CAD for the other. She couldn't explain why there was a price difference, and didn't appear to care very much. I didn't argue with her, but I will send a comment to WestJet asking why.

At baggage check. One bag weighs 50 lbs, and the other weighs 40 lbs!
I can't imagine that some people travel with that much stuff all the time!

It was an uneventful 45 minute flight to Toronto. Arrived at 7:00am, and our departure to Mexico City is at 11:00am, so we are in the premium lounge having some breakfast.

Next post coming to you from Mexico!

    1. Thank you! It was a long day but everything went pretty much as planned and we are happy to be back.

  2. I'd imagine the 50-lb bag cost more than the 40-lb bag. That's the only way the difference in price makes sense. We had to travel like that to and from Belize and Mexico when we were actually moving there (or away from there); otherwise, we liked traveling light as well!

    1. Both bags should have cost the same. The price was supposed to be $46 CAD ($33 USD) as long as the weight was under 23 kg (51 lb) and the size was within the 62 linear messurements which both bags complied.

We are so glad that we don't travel with more than the regular carry-on bag and personal item each. We just couldn't imagine trying to travel with more! Thankfully this isn't a common occurrence for us but yes, moving from one house to another would entail extra luggage.
