He hadn't been running since we arrived here at the beginning of May. So almost six full months.
I had disconnected the engine battery when we left in May. I checked it with the meter and it was still fully charged. Great news! Then I checked the oil level, and it was fine. So I put in the key and cranked it over!
The engine turned over five or six times, and then Igor roared to life! He ran a little rough for fifteen seconds or so, but then smoothed out and idled fine.
I had dug out a bit of the rear wheels that were stuck in the mud. I was able to move him about a foot or so before the wheels starting spinning. I wasn't surprised. In fact, I would have been surprised if he was able to get out of there on his own.
Stuck!
Wheels spinning in the mud.
Our host Chago has a big four wheel drive truck that he uses to put boats in the water. He hooked us up to that and easily helped Igor to more solid ground.
This is where Igor had been parked for the last six months.
On more solid ground.
I've been in touch with a mechanic and alignment shop very close to here in nearby El Arco. He quoted me a price for the labor to change all four shock absorbers (I already have the parts) and do a front wheel alignment. I think it sounds too low, but we booked in a time slot for Wednesday morning at 8:00am, and I'll go over it with him then and confirm that he knows what's involved. The rear ones are fairly easy, but the front ones can be a bit time consuming.
We went for another Spanish lesson late afternoon, then watched game 3 of the World Series.
And what a game it was, lasting 18 innings. That's like watching two complete games! Unfortunately the Blue Jays lost 6-5, but they played well it could have gone either way. We stayed up for the whole thing, and made it to bed at about 12:45am our time. The game had started at 6:00pm! There must have been a lot of sleepy eyes this morning in Toronto where the game ended at 2:45am local time!
End of another great day in Mexico

Oh whew, just saw this post after commenting on the previous one. Glad you got some help and got Igor out of the mud! Good luck to the Blue Jays in the next game. That sounds like a real nailbiter!
ReplyDeleteYep, with a little help, Igor got out of the mud fairly easily. Kevin had a bit of work afterward getting the mud off the tires before it dried up and became like concrete though. We also seem to have finally got rid of the ants in Igor so once he comes back from the mechanics we will begin giving him a real good deep clean before packing everything back into him.
DeleteThat one game was a very long one and it was also a really good one. Both teams played well and yes, it was a real nailbitter. The Jays won last night's game so we are tied up again at 2-2. It is definitely a good series with very evenly matched teams.
It was a good game. In the end, it was just whoever got a lucky hit was going to win and the other guys did but I don't consider it a bad loss. I was sorry to see Springer aggravate his injury and can only hope it doesn't knock him out for the season. Tonight's game starts in three hours so I better get my popcorn pipping! Nice to see Igor back on the road!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great game and yeah it pretty much came down to which team would get a lucky hit and no, the Jays can't be considered real losers in that game, they played hard. Last night's game was a another good game and this time the Jays came out on top. This is shaping up to be a really good series with evenly matched teams!
DeleteFor the last two days when I clicked on the daily link that I received in my email, there has been a pop-up that says my phone has been infected. So now, if I want to read your daily post, I go to your website and that seems to be fine Anyone else having issues with the daily email?
ReplyDeleteNo, neither Kevin nor I have an any issues with our phones sending out an email like that and we haven't heard from any other readers about a problem similar to yours and normally if there is we usually hear about it. It might be some kind of scam, I wouldn't clink on any links connected with that email.
