And we're in no real rush. We have no time deadlines other than making sure the spare bedroom is finished for when my sister arrives mid December.
And that involves repairing some walls and doing some painting.
I need to buy some concrete filler for this wall.
Our host Chago had offered to get the walls painted But we don't mind doing the work if he supplies the materials. That way, we know it will get done now rather than later. However there are some holes and cracks that need repairing. It's a little more work than expected, but not bad.
The spare bedroom is now empty except for one heavy couch that is missing the cushions.
The entry hallway is also empty now.
That old stove will also be going.
The only other major thing is furniture. Double beds are more popular in Mexico, but we want to get a queen bed for the spare bedroom. They're kind of expensive, but one thing we have learned from our many stays with Airbnb is that the quality of the bed is important! Again, we hope to be doing this for a few years and we want our guests to be comfortable.
Other furniture, we are having built. The carpenter is supposed to show up either tomorrow or Friday to take some measurements and give us a price.
Another beautiful day.
Too bad about the water hyacinth. It's really bad this year.
It looks like the rain is holding off until Saturday, so either tomorrow or Friday things should be dry enough to attempt to move Igor. We'll get him onto more stable ground and closer to our house. I can also then take him to a local mechanic to have the shocks changed. Hopefully we can still get away for three or four weeks during November.
Egrets on the dock.

I think you are making progress! I definitely agree with the queen bed in the spare bedroom. As I've mentioned before, we prefer a king but can live with a queen. A regular double, unless there are two of them, just isn't enough. I remember reading some time ago that the size of a double halved leaves each person less space than a crib. No wonder we could never get comfortable in one or sleep without one person constantly waking the other up. You are both lucky to be so adaptable!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely are making progress, there is no doubt about that, I just feel that we still have so much more to do. We have also had to deal with clearing everything out of Igor and washing/wiping it all down and dealing with the ants in Igor which has also taken up some time.
DeleteWe are definitely going with a queen and maybe even eventually we will get a queen sized bed for our bedroom as well but that can wait because we are both fine sleeping on the double but would prefer a queen as you said when one moves it tends to wake up the other person, plus if we rent out this place the upstairs bedroom would be the preferred bedroom to use.
What about 2 twins. It might open your rental up to more than just couples?
ReplyDeleteNope, because then you are limiting yourself again, some people are put off with twins even when they are pushed together. You would also have the added cost of two beds, two mattresses and bedding for both twin beds and again for a queen/king,. Also twins are shorter that either a queen or king sized bed.
DeleteMexican construction materials require a learning curve. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris! The crack/hole filler is definitely different from anything that Kevin has worked with but he was able to use it without much of an issue and the painting yesterday went just fine.
