Lindsey took us to Aylesford Lake Beach. It's a municipal park with a nice sandy beach, and kayak rentals. And the cost? Amazingly, it's all totally free!
Ruth and I couldn't believe it. No parking fees, no day use fees, no fees for the rental kayaks. All supplied by the municipal government. Fantastic.
Surprisingly, it wasn't very busy.
Lindsey says they came here quite often in July and it was fairly busy. But many Nova Scotians take holidays in August and so they are gone on vacation, and the tourists don't know about this beach.
Cameron out in a kayak with his fishing rod.
Lindsey and Ruth paddling in the water.
The grass is so dry from lack of rain.
It was a nice relaxing afternoon in the sunshine.

And in Canada...
Wow free parking etc etc. We were just looking at a river in Italy north of Rome to go to. They want 10 to 12 euro to enter. Who knows for parking!!!! It's a river for God's sake. Unbelievable. Obviously we aren't going there om principle. Have found another beautiful place on a river free with free parking 😉
ReplyDeleteTrust us, it is rare here in Canada to find a beach with free parking as well as having free kayak and paddleboard loans. Obviously this part of Nova Scotia at least is doing it right. Also Nova Scotian provincial parks don't have a day use fee whereas most parks across canada do.
DeleteWe are glad that you didn't play their game at that park/river outside of Rome and that you were able to find another beautiful spot on the river where you didn't have to pay.
